Job Description:Responsible for work related to the University's general ledger, which may include cash and operating investments, endowments, fixed assets, sponsored projects, and general accounting. Responsible for daily accounting functions such as preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, assisting with month-end and year-end closes, and assisting with annual financial statement audit and/or single audit and related workpapers. Works with various departments within the University to ensure proper and accurate posting of transactions. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Prepares monthly general ledger reconciliations to ensure the accuracy and appropriateness of entries to ledger accounts, and reconciles subsidiary ledger accounts to the general ledger. Follow up with responsible departments to resolve any reconciling items or issues.Prepares journal entries for asset, liability, revenue, and expense accounts by compiling and analyzing account information.Summarizes financial information for completion of required reporting, to include project closeout reports, effort reporting, surveys, cash reporting, etc.Assists in the preparation of required schedules and supporting documentation for the annual financial statement and/or single audit. Assists with any direct questions from Auditors.Reviews departmental journal entries for accuracy and follows-up with respective department admins for clarification or further supporting documentation.Serves as a liaison between the Business Office and various University departments and assists with questions and issues from respective departments.Assists in maintaining accounting internal controls by updating and documenting policies and procedures.EDUCATIONRequired:Bachelor's degree in Accounting from four-year college or universityExperience above what is minimally required may be substituted for education on a year for year basis. EXPERIENCERequired:One to two years of accounting experience. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESRequired:Working knowledge of personal computers.Working knowledge of spreadsheet and word processing software.Strong analytical skills.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Ability to work well with others.Ability to work with accuracy and detail.Ability to organize and prioritize assignments.
