Director of Operations
working in
Denver, Colorado , you will focus primarily on the safety, reliability, teamwork and productivity of the Operations functions at Coors Distributing Company (CDC). This role has overall responsibility of all operational functions at CDC, including warehouse operations, product delivery, logistics, fleet management, transportation, inventory management, budget management, staffing and training, facility management, security, maintenance and regulatory safety requirements. The CDC warehouse has an automated case picking system, which will require building knowledge and expertise with this production environment. The Director of Operations plays an integral role in developing our future warehouse plan, including space requirements, building layout and automation.The Operations Director has 6 direct reports (Warehouse Manager, Transportation Manager, Maintenance Manager, Inventory & Loss Prevention Manager, Logistics Manager and IT Manager). Indirectly responsible for approximately 215 employees. In this role is a role model in the cultural acceptance and integration of the Molson Coors values: Put People First, Be Bold and Decisive, Take Accountability, Learn Every Day and Celebrate Together. The Director of Operations builds teamwork and engagement among the operations team and is an effective partner on the Senior Leadership Team at CDC.This position reports to the Vice President and General Manager - CDC.The Responsibilities:Operations Leadership (35%):
Accountable for leading the operations team to high levels of engagement through servant leadership, positive employee relations strategies and a safety mindset. Responsible for collaborating with employees at all levels to embed open and effective communication strategies. Provides leadership and direction to the Operations Leadership Team while providing a strategic vision, encouraging innovation and motivating/inspiring the team.Provides leadership and direction for CDC Operations team, including delivery, warehouse, maintenance, inventory management and logistics.Direct and oversee the receiving, warehousing, and delivery of approximately 17 million case equivalents of volume annually (made up of approximately 1,300 SKUs) in accordance with FIFO controls and in a safe and productive manner.Accountable for the safe and efficient delivery of product to retail throughout CDC’s market territory while ensuring that plans are in place for the Operations team to successfully handle changing market conditions, new segments of growth and competitive challenges.Responsible for managing annual operating expense totaling approximately $30 million; leads the development, planning and execution of the annual operating budget for operations.Leads team to ensure the automated case picking system operates effectively, identifying opportunities to improve throughput, developing and implementing continual preventative maintenance programs and troubleshooting system issues / downtime.Direct responsibility for negotiating planned capital purchases and lease rates for the company’s delivery fleet, warehouse equipment and all other operations related items.Responsible for overseeing the maintenance of the company’s assets/fleet, including approximately 100 large fleet power units, 90 trailers, 120 small fleet vehicles, & 50 pieces of warehouse equipment (overall fleet valued at approximately $9M).Provides leadership with outside vendors and internal (Molson Coors/CDC) cross-functional teams to ensure the security, upkeep and maintenance of CDC’s 300k sq ft facility located on 25 acres.
Operations Strategy & Planning (25%):
Improve physical throughput optimizing personnel, equipment and processes/procedures.Identify process improvement opportunities to improve efficiencies in the warehouse, delivery and maintenance teams.Works collaboratively with CDC functional leaders, suppliers and outside vendors to identify and pursue cross functional efficiency and productivity improvements; position must stay current on new and emerging technologies and processes that may improve the safety and productivity of CDC’s operations team.Identify the future needs and capabilities for the warehouse operation to support growth, and works with project team to develop recommendation and supporting business case.Build capabilities with routing and delivery effectiveness to effectively adapt the business to the changing market landscape.Leads development of a forward-looking sustainability plan for the CDC operation.Provide vision and leadership in development of CDC’s Technology strategic plan. Provides oversight to Information Technology area through project prioritization and resource management.Collaborate among the departments to ensure IT integration points are defined and enabled to effectively support the business.Develop plans for IT emergency system back-up and protection against cyber threats.
Safety Leadership (10%):
Accountable for building and maintaining a safety environment that encompasses our safety culture of “Target Zero” for all Operations personnel, whether they are working primarily on site or off site (i.e., delivery).Help lead CDC’s Risk Assessment and mitigation processes for the Operations function and develops safety plans and processes accordingly.Provides leadership and direction to employees and leaders to ensure the safety of employees, while creating safe work processes and procedures to establish a strong safety culture.Overall responsibility for ensuring compliance with all OSHA Safety and Environmental procedures, all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and any other federal/state/local regulations that apply to CDC’s operations.
Performance & Talent Management (20%):
Provide thought leadership in developing and executing strategic staffing plans that encompass staffing needs, engagement/retention opportunities and turnover trends. Ensure CDC is staffed at appropriate levels to properly service the market.Develop and lead an ongoing training and development strategy using the Talent Management tools and processes to optimize the development of our employees. Utilize Performance Management tools and processes to coach and develop employees to perform at optimal levels.Collaborate with HR and Talent Acquisition team to develop recruiting strategy for Operations Team, particularly for CDL Class A Drivers and warehouse team members.Oversee Driver in Training program, to recruit, hiring and train driver candidates to earn their CDL Class A License. This includes ensuring we are compliance with all Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMSCA) and DOT requirements for site registration, training requirements and documentation.
The Other Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in operations/supply chain management or related field; Master’s Degree/MBA preferred.10+ years of operations leadership experience, preferably in the logistics/distribution field.Must understand how to read and leverage P&Ls and make sound decisions.Must demonstrate capability of building a strong and positive operations function culture, with teamwork and collaboration serving as the foundation for same; at same time, must understand criticality of cross-functional teamwork with peer organizations (Sales, Human Resources, G&A, etc.).Must be able to communicate with all levels of the organization in a professional manner, including speaking in large groups and/or making presentations.Must be proficient in the use of Excel, Word, and Power Point; must have capability to become knowledgeable and somewhat proficient in software technologies that support operations.Must demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment.Ability to professionally represent CDC with suppliers, vendors, trade associations, retail customers, consultants, and the CDC senior leadership team.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and/or walk in a warehouse environment, which includes refrigerated space.
