Position SummaryCenter X is a community of educators, in the Graduate School of Education and Information Studies at UCLA, working to transform public schooling to create a more just, equitable, and humane society. Under the general direction of the Computer Science Program Director, the candidate will work with critical aspects of public affairs and policy in order to scale up computer science curriculum and professional development programs in California and across the United States and ensure its accessibility to low-income students of color. Major responsibilities include:Implementing a statewide strategy to drive an effective campaign of public awareness, research and school/district implementation;Building broad-based community support and engagement;Supporting the Director in developing professional development programs;Conducting and disseminating interdisciplinary research;Planning and facilitating symposia, lectures, and conferences.

Salary & Compensation*UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Salary offers at the top of the range are not common. Visit

QualificationsTeaching/Facilitation: A minimum of five years of successful teaching or facilitation, preferably in an urban or rural context. (Required)English Language Learners: Experience teaching English Language Learners (Preferred)Professional Development: Experience in leading and participating in professional development for teachers in the content area of computer science. (Preferred)Comfortable working in many different teaching environments and with teachers from varied backgrounds and experiences, organizational skills and flexibility. (Required)Specialized training and/or experience in providing professional development and coaching, preferably having participated in institutes offered by California State Subject Matter Projects. (Required)An understanding of the developmental stages of students. (Required)Ability to summarize current research and reform issues regarding computer science, and related education issues AND to apply them to programs. (Required)Skill in designing and writing proposals, reports, and articles to secure funding. (Required)Ability to promote a positive public relations image. (Required)Ability to develop, nurture, and sustain teacher leaders. (Required)Ability to design, implement, evaluate and revise professional development programs. (Required)Ability to communicate effectively to small and large groups of people, from students to colleagues, teachers, parents, and administrators. (Required)Skill in working with many different teaching environments and with teachers from varied backgrounds and experiences (Required)Ability to create and maintain budgets. (Required)
