Position SummaryCenter X is a community of educators in the School of Education and Information Studies, working to transform public schooling to create a more just, equitable, and humane society. The incumbent will work in conjunction with the CRLP Statewide Office in supporting statewide goals for language and literacy instruction K-12. Incumbent directs the Center's Literacy Project with responsibility for overseeing, developing, and administering professional development including instructional coaching in alignment with Center X's mission. Major responsibilities include:Identifying and securing professional development engagements for Center X with school districts, schools, teachers, and principals;Identifying, selecting, training, and guiding a cadre of Professional Learning Partners/Instructional Coaches;Designing, planning, administering, and coaching in programs including institutes, follow-up sessions, workshop series, conferences, and district-wide programs.

Qualifications5 years experience teaching in middle or secondary classrooms in urban settings. (Required)Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with educators at all levels - colleagues, classroom teachers, university faculty, school district personnel, and state departments. (Required)Deep knowledge of the subject matter content and critical pedagogy for teaching English Language Arts, English Language Development, and Literature, along with the ability to teach other teachers how to apply a variety of instructional methods that are practical. (Required)Ability to design and evaluate reading teaching strategies to decide on their effectiveness in specific teaching situations. (Required)Skill in working as part of a team by collaborating with colleagues to design effective Reading education programs and courses. (Required)Ability to communicate effectively to small and large groups to make presentations and convey information about Reading and education policies and practices, elicit cooperation and support, and share new ideas. (Required)Skill in performing a variety of duties - writing, designing, acquiring speakers for different projects concurrently. (Required)Skill in analyzing teacher school district needs and resources available to design appropriate programs. (Required)Knowledge of the specific content of CRLP professional development programs by virtue of having attended previous CRLP professional development offerings. (Required)Working knowledge of basic reading content in all disciplines and trends in current Reading research, so that the content of reading education programs is relevant for teachers and students. (Required)Working knowledge of current education research and adult learning theory so the teaching strategies are appropriate for teachers. (Required)Working knowledge of state and national standards and of school district administrative procedures so that programs will be tailored to them and be adopted. (Required)Ability to use research methods to evaluate the effectiveness of programs. (Required)
