Salary : $55,796.18 - $61,375.80 Annually Location : Multiple locations, SC Job Type: FULL-TIME Job Number: 02012 Department: INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY Opening Date: 10/24/2024 Description The purpose of the class is to install, maintain, repair and replace computer hardware, software and peripheral equipment; to provide effective user support; and to perform related technical work as required. The class is given a general outline of work to be performed and is free to develop work methods and sequences; work is reviewed periodically by supervisor. This position is responsible for support at 15 county locations and is required to periodically work at various sites. Position may close prior to post closing date if sufficient qualified applicants are received. Duties ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Inspects microcomputer equipment and prepares microcomputers for delivery to end users. Installs, configures and tests computer hardware, software and peripheral equipment. Manages projects related to hardware, software and network design; patches cabling/installation; and punches down network connectors and hooks to network. Upgrades computer hardware and software as necessary. Diagnoses and resolves hardware and software problems reported by computer users; initiates and/or performs repairs and replacements as appropriate. Schedules and performs preventive maintenance on computer equipment. Replaces defective or inadequate software packages. Refers major hardware problems to outside service personnel for correction. Provides timely and professional user support and assistance as requested; may provide user training. Implements and maintains user rights; disables, enables and creates user profiles within computer systems for the County. Assists in maintaining system security. Administers, maintains and updates VOIP phone systems and numbers throughout the County. Assists in administering the Dorchester County local area network (LAN); may diagnose common network problems. Assist in the installation, upgrading and configuration of network printing and directory structures on file servers. Researches, tests, recommends and implements technology solutions for the enhancement or modification of County operations. Receives and responds to employee inquiries, requests for assistance and complaints regarding information technology procedures and services. Instructs and trains end users in proper use of equipment and software. Maintains accurate and complete work records. Performs other general administrative/clerical work as required, including but not limited to preparing reports and correspondence, entering and retrieving computer data, copying and filing documents, answering the telephone, etc. Attends training as required to maintain job knowledge and skills. May handle the Emergency Operations Center during critical events on a 24 hour a day, 7 days a week status as assigned until the event is complete. Performs other related job duties as assigned. Qualifications Education and Experience: Associate degree or equivalent with emphasis in computer science, management information system technology or a closely related field.
