Job Title : Senior Project Manager - Healthcare IT (Contract)

Location : Onsite - Iowa City, IA

Contract Duration : 6 months, with potential for a 6-month extension

Job Summary :We are seeking a Senior Project Manager to support strategic healthcare IT initiatives, specifically for the implementation of a new Radiology Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) and various Radiology and Pathology projects. The role will provide hands-on project management expertise in a complex healthcare environment, ensuring that project goals are met on schedule, within scope, and on budget. This position will work closely with various stakeholders, including hospital administration, clinical staff, technical teams, and department leadership, to facilitate smooth project execution and support the organization’s strategic plan.

Responsibilities :

Project Planning & Development :

Develop project charter, scope, timeline, budget, and project plans.

Define project deliverables, KPIs, and success criteria.

Team & Stakeholder Management :

Assemble and manage a diverse project team, including technical, clinical, and administrative personnel.

Communicate project status, issues, and updates effectively to all stakeholders, ensuring alignment and transparency.

Monitoring & Adjusting :

Track project progress against established timelines and budgets, making adjustments as necessary to maintain alignment with project goals.

Proactively identify potential constraints and implement corrective actions to ensure the project remains on course.

Issue & Risk Management :

Monitor and escalate any issues and risks, ensuring timely mitigation and resolution.

Develop and maintain a risk management plan to anticipate and address potential project obstacles.

Vendor & Supplier Management :

Establish and maintain relationships with vendors, managing all aspects of vendor involvement, including timelines, deliverables, and quality of service.

Process Improvement & Change Management :

Lead process improvement activities to enhance efficiency and streamline workflows.

Act as a change agent within the organization, fostering an environment of continuous improvement.

Reporting & Documentation :

Generate regular status reports and documentation for project sponsors and other stakeholders.

Maintain detailed project records, including meeting minutes, updates, and deliverable tracking.

Required Skills:

Experience :

Minimum

5 years of project management experience

in a healthcare delivery setting.

Strong background in

IT project management for healthcare , ideally involving

Radiology ,

Pathology , or

PACS

systems.

Proven track record of successfully managing large-scale projects and systems implementations.

Certifications :

PMP (Project Management Professional)

or equivalent (Master Certificate in Project Management, Public Health Certification, Informatics Certificate, or Prince2).

Additional certifications such as

Lean, Agile, Six Sigma, ITILv3

are highly preferred.

Technical Skills :

Proficiency in

MS Project, MS Teams, SharePoint, MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), MS Visio , and

Zoom .

Familiarity with

PMBOK

standards and

Waterfall methodology .

Strong skills in

performance improvement techniques , including current state assessment, KPI development, and workflow mapping/redesign.

Leadership & Communication :

Excellent

verbal and written communication skills

for engaging stakeholders at all levels.

Ability to lead, motivate, and manage teams, fostering a collaborative and productive project environment.

Experience in leading process improvements and change management.

Process Improvement & Independent Management :

Skilled in

process improvement activities , workflow changes, and business process optimization.

Ability to independently manage multiple projects with a strong customer service focus, utilizing established PMO methodologies, tools, and techniques.

onsite

and

located in Iowa City, IA

(local and regional candidates only).

Required Qualifications :

Education : Bachelor's degree in a related field; an advanced degree in healthcare administration, public health, or a similar field is preferred.

Experience :

Minimum of 5 years of healthcare IT project management experience, ideally with large-scale implementations.

Demonstrated experience with radiology or pathology project management is preferred.

Certifications :

PMP or equivalent (Master Certificate in Project Management, Informatics Certification, Prince2, etc.).

Additional certifications such as Lean, Agile, Six Sigma, or ITILv3 are highly advantageous.

Required Tools & Technologies :

Proficiency in project management and collaboration tools including MS Project, MS Teams, SharePoint, and MS Office Suite.

Familiarity with PMBOK and Waterfall methodologies is required.

Soft Skills :

Strong communication and interpersonal skills for engaging with team members at all levels.

Proven leadership abilities with a collaborative and motivational management style.

Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
