Entry Level Traffic Engineer
to join one of our Midwest offices, including:
Kansas City, MO, Wichita, KS, Omaha, NE . This entry level position is involved in the application of engineering fundamentals to the design or construction of Traffic Engineering projects for states, municipalities, and the federal government. This position will primarily support the Traffic Engineering and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) group for the Midwest region.Primary Responsibilities (others may be included):Assist with Traffic Engineering design projects involving tasks such as: Signing & Pavement Marking, Lighting, Traffic Signal Design, and Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) plan preparation.Assist with data collection, analysis, report preparation for Traffic Impact Studies, Corridor Studies, Signal Timing Updates, etc.Assist others in analyzing information and data to perform routine design tasks.Participate in non-design engineering activities such as construction inspection and materials testing, surveying, CADD production, and field data collection.Receive instructions from Project Manager or Senior Project Engineers regarding expected results.Research design options and document findings for Senior Project Engineer.Maintain project database by writing computer programs; entering and backing up data.Research code requirements.Prepare environmental impact and other administrative reports required for project permits.Keep Senior Project Manager informed of workload and any changes in project schedule or scope or additional services.Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.Assist or participate in preparation of business proposals.Attend Project Manager training to begin to develop project management skills.QualificationsWhat you bring to our firm:Bachelor’s degree in Civil engineering.Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.Encouraged to try to identify and solve engineering problems using judgment, and education, but is expected to ask for assistance when needed.Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office, and various engineering software systems depending on engineering discipline: AutoCAD; MicroStation/GeoPak; In Roads, Open Roads Designer and Civil 3D.Actively engages multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members.What we’d prefer for you to bring to our firm:Surveying and construction inspection or management experience is helpful, but not required.Completion of the Engineering-in-Training exam is strongly encouraged.Experience with Traffic Engineering software: Synchro, SignCAD, VISSIM, VISUM and knowledge of MUTCD, HCM, HSM.Featured Benefits:Hybrid (in-person and remote) work environment.Comprehensive health benefits package including wellness, maternity/paternity leave, and employer paid AD&D, STD, and LTD.401(k) company match.Vacation accrual separate from sick time.Eleven (11) paid holidays for 2024 with the option to substitute 2 holidays for employees to celebrate other day(s) of significance.Six (6) day winter break in 2024 that is included in the paid holiday schedule.Work Environment:The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
