Description

TheSenior Accountantplays a crucial role in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of accounting information for GMHC. This position involves recording, verifying, entering, reviewing, and reconciling financial transactions that affect the general ledger. The Senior Accountant collaborates closely with the Accounting Team to facilitate precise monthly closes and ensure a seamless, adjustment-free year-end audit. Key responsibilities include overseeing financial reporting processes, identifying discrepancies, and implementing best practices to enhance financial accuracy.

Essential Job Functions

The following duties are mandatory requirements of the job:

Prepare accurate and timely financial statements in alignment with GMHC’s established schedule, ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Prepare journal entries for prepaid expenses and other items as assigned.

Reconcile various balance sheet accounts to maintain financial accuracy and integrity.

Conduct monthly bank reconciliations to ensure accuracy in financial records and transactions.

Analyze financial statements for discrepancies and potential issues, promptly notifying the Controller as necessary.

Review monthly financial results, analyze variances against budget and prior year figures, and investigate the underlying causes of significant discrepancies.

Create ad-hoc spreadsheets and reports as needed to support financial analysis and decision-making.

Manage and reconcile the incentives spreadsheet to ensure accuracy and proper tracking of incentive-related data.

Manage fixed assets, including tracking depreciation and maintaining prepaid schedules to ensure accurate financial reporting.

Manage treasury functions, including the preparation of daily ACH and wire transfers, managing positive pay, and maintaining a daily cash activity log for all bank accounts.

Administer the Time and Attendance System, ensuring that employees have completed their timesheets accurately and on time.

Validate employee payroll information entered the payroll system, making corrections and adjustments as necessary to ensure accuracy.

Process and transmit payroll to Paylocity, ensuring accuracy and timely submission.

Process 1099 forms to ensure compliance with tax regulations and accurate reporting for vendors.

Assist in preparing year-end analysis schedules required by auditors, including templates needed for the Not-for-Profit tax return (Form 990).

Follow up on correspondence with the IRS and state authorities concerning annual tax filings.

Other Responsibilities

The following duties are to be performed as assigned by the supervisor:

Assist with special projects and carry out other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Provide backup support for other fiscal operations as needed.

Requirements

Education and Certification

Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required.

Experience

5+ years of accounting experience required.

Experience with SAGE Intacct is a plus.

Experience with Paylocity is a plus.

Special Skills and Knowledge

Salary Description

$80,000-$90,000 per year
