Northrop Grumman Defense Systems has an open opportunity for Systems Test Engineer, or Principal Systems Test Engineer, supporting our team in Plymouth, Minnesota.

About The Role

Synthesizes customer contractual needs and requirements into system test solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule and cost constraints. Develops and directs preparation and execution of comprehensive test plans, procedures and schedules for completing systems. Coordinates integrated testing activities. Reviews and evaluates test requirements to ensure completeness of the test program. Performs technical analysis of complete systems and prepares comprehensive system level evaluations.

Job Description:

As a Systems Test Engineer, the applicant will be required to perform as the lead engineer in the creation of Detailed Test Plans (DTPs), Test Procedures, and Engineering Test Reports (ETRs) in a Department of Defense (DoD) environment utilizing the applicable military specifications and standards as they relate to the verification/validation of the various system requirements.

The selected candidate will be required to plan, organize, communicate, and execute testing activities for programs and projects as part of Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) by adhering to proper test engineering practices and procedures to ensure company work instructions and processes are followed.

The candidate may also be a contributor and interface agent with our external customers, end users, and business partners.

Also, the applicant will be required to generate the required documentation packages (including checklists), and plan and lead the required Test Readiness Reviews (TRRs) prior to test conduct. Other activities will include interfacing and coordinating with program managers, chief engineers, design engineers, quality engineers, Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA), and our outside customers.

Able to generate Master Test Plans (MTPs) and Hardware Utilization Matrices (HUMs).

Perform as a Control Account Manager (CAM) in support of the engineering and design verification testing activities in coordination with other Northrop Grumman IPTs to help ensure budgets are maintained and met while meeting milestones and deliveries.

Support proposal and bidding activities for potentially new programs and projects.

Please note this position may be filled as a Systems Test Engineer (Level 2), or Principal Systems Test Engineer (Level 3) depending on the candidate’s education and/or years of experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, or Systems Engineering plus 2 years of work experience performing in an engineering organization (with Systems Test Engineering being a plus). Or master’s degree plus 0 years of work experience.

Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, or Systems Engineering plus 5 years of work experience performing in an engineering organization (with Systems Test Engineering being a plus). Or master’s degree plus 3 years of work experience.

Experience with Department of Defense (DoD) programs and projects as they relate to product verification and validation per program requirements with an emphasis on test plans, test conduct, and test report generation.

Strong understanding and application of the various military specifications and standards as they relate to requirements verifications for advanced weapons, medium and large caliber ammunition, and precision guidance weapons.

Experience with environmental testing methods and processes, such as ballistics, trace, self-destruct, round performance, temperature and humidity (storage and live fire), transportation vibration, drop shock, thermal, jolt/jumble, salt fog, waterproofing, and electromagnetic environmental effects (E3).

Prior experience generating test plans and test reports for customer deliverables in capturing required test data per the test plan/procedure.

Strong analytical skills and the ability to work independently and organize/prioritize job assignments and tasks.

Ability to travel in the range of 25% to 50% will most likely be required to support the various off-site testing activities.

Security regulations require that the individual must be a U.S. Citizen.

Must have the ability to obtain a DOD security clearance to a level of Secret.

Desired Qualifications:

Ability to read and understand engineering drawings per ASME that would include extensive use of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) – per ASME Y14.5-2009 and others.

Prior use and experience with the Siemens Teamcenter Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and System Requirements tools, such as Cameo (Dassault Systèmes) and Dynamic Object-Oriented Requirements System (DOORS - IBM).

Failure analysis and resolution methods, such as FRACAS, 8D, and others.

Design experience as it relates to aerospace products and systems that use similar industry specifications and standards.

Current and Active Security Clearance of “Secret” is highly desirable.

Salary Range:

$75,700 - $113,500

Salary Range 2:

$93,000 - $139,600

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
