Company Overview :An upscale cannabis company is seeking a dynamic and strategic Director of Retail Operations to oversee multiple retail locations across Oregon and California. This individual will be responsible for implementing innovative ideas to enhance retail sales, manage store operations, and foster a customer-centric environment. Large-scale retail experience is ideal, and while no prior cannabis knowledge is required, a strong understanding of retail management and business strategy is essential.
Job Summary :The Director of Retail Operations will spearhead efforts to meet sales targets, ensure operational excellence, and cultivate high-performing teams across all dispensary locations in both Oregon and California. This role demands a hands-on leader who can balance top-line sales growth with operational efficiency, all while maintaining a positive company culture. The Director will collaborate with senior leadership to develop long-term strategies and implement data-driven decisions that promote sustainable growth across both states.
Key Responsibilities :
Operational Oversight
Oversee daily operations of multiple dispensary locations in Oregon and California, ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.
Implement consistent operational practices across all stores to enhance productivity and streamline processes.
Monitor inventory levels and optimize stock management to ensure efficient and profitable store operations across state lines.
Sales and Profitability
Develop and execute sales strategies to meet revenue and profitability goals across Oregon and California markets.
Analyze sales data and financial reports to assess store performance and adjust strategies as needed.
Identify growth opportunities through new products, promotions, and service improvements in both states.
Staff Management
Recruit, train, and develop store managers and retail staff for Oregon and California locations.
Conduct performance reviews, provide coaching, and foster a motivated, high-performing team.
Ensure succession planning and maintain a strong talent pipeline across all locations.
Customer Service and Experience
Ensure all locations provide excellent customer service and enhance the overall customer experience.
Address escalated customer concerns and implement strategies to boost satisfaction across Oregon and California dispensaries.
Foster an approachable management style to elicit employee and customer feedback.
Budgeting and Financial Management
Create and manage budgets for staffing, marketing, and store expenses, ensuring profitability across both states.
Monitor and control expenses, and make data-driven decisions regarding pricing, promotions, and other financial strategies.
Provide senior leadership with regular financial performance updates and insights.
Visual Merchandising and Store Appearance
Ensure adherence to visual merchandising standards that align with the company’s brand and marketing goals.
Work closely with the marketing team to execute promotional displays and campaigns across all retail locations.
Strategic Planning and Growth
Collaborate with senior leadership to create and implement long-term business strategies.
Identify market trends in both Oregon and California and adjust operations to stay competitive.
Assess potential new store locations or underperforming locations for closure.
Compliance and Safety
Ensure dispensaries comply with health, safety, and state/federal regulatory requirements, including cannabis-specific legislation in Oregon and California.
Conduct audits to ensure operational compliance and safety standards are met across both states.
Vendor and Supplier Management
Maintain relationships with vendors and suppliers, negotiating contracts to benefit the business.
Ensure a steady flow of product and supplies, and oversee cost management across Oregon and California.
Reporting and Data Analysis
Prepare regular performance reports for senior leadership, offering insights and recommendations based on data analysis.
Use business intelligence tools to evaluate sales, productivity, and profitability metrics across both state operations.
Qualifications :
6+ years of retail operations experience, with at least 3+ years in a management role.
Proven success in driving sales, managing multi-store operations, and opening new retail locations.
Experience overseeing operations in multiple states is highly preferred.
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, with a focus on team-building and customer engagement.
Experience with business strategy, budgeting, and data-driven decision-making.
Ability to adapt in a fast-paced, startup-like environment.
Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
Willingness to travel regularly between store locations in Oregon and California.
Familiarity with state-specific cannabis regulations in both Oregon and California is a plus.
