Charge Nurse - Inpatient Post Surgical Unit - Full Time/Nights

This position is accountable for managing the overall operations of a defined patient care unit during an assigned shift. The incumbent is accountable for monitoring, evaluation, and directing patient care provided by staff, coordinating activities of the patient care unit, making staff assignments and assisting with the development and evaluation of staff members. The incumbent will assist with the recruitment and hiring of staff, evaluating staff competency and evaluating, coaching, and counseling assigned staff in concert with the Manager/Supervisor. This position practices within the scope of the Nursing Practice Act, and in accordance with Children's policies.

Starship Exploreris a 36-bed, acute care unit with a patient population comprised primarilyof surgical patients. The surgical services includes, but isnot limited to cardiac, trauma, neurosurgery, ENT and orthopedicpatients. Explorer's patients are both inpatient and observation patients. Explorer has central monitoring capabilities and 4 rooms with negative pressurecapabilities. About Us:The pediatric inpatient post-surgical unit, also known as Explorer, is a dynamic and fast-paced, 35-bed unit, specializing in post-surgical care for patients across various specialties including orthopedics, general surgery, cardiac, and neurology. With centralized monitoring, our dedicated staff ensures high-quality care for every patient, offering an excellent opportunity for nurses to acquire diverse skills due to the rapid turnover and patient variety. The unit also plays a crucial role in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU), with 12 beds - 6 for seizure monitoring and 6 for surgical overflow cases. Our EMU rooms are equipped with specialty equipment to monitor and visualize seizure activity, leading to improved treatment and better patient outcomes. EXPERIENCE:

Minimum 2 years full time or equivalent nursing experience requiredExperience in pediatrics, post-surgical and/or hospital inpatient setting a plusPrior leadership experience preferredBilingual skills desirableEDUCATION/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIFICATIONS:

Graduate from an accredited nursing programBachelor's degree required, Bachelors in nursing highly desirableActive California Registered Nurse licensure (RN)HeartCode Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire or transfer into positionPediatric Emergency Assess, Resuscitation & Stabilization (PEARS) within 12 months of hire or transfer into position
