As an Air Quality Performance Test Engineer Associate, you will play a vital role in ensuring compliance with air quality regulations. Your responsibilities will include evaluating and processing performance test protocols, observing performance tests for various sources, and reviewing performance test reports.
Performance tests, also known as stack tests or source tests, are crucial for verifying that process equipment and control devices are operating correctly and meeting emission limits. Your work will contribute directly to the department's mission to improve the air of Maricopa County so that customers, residents, and visitors can live, work, and play in a healthy environment.

Bachelor of Science degree in Civil, Chemical, Environmental, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related fieldMust possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hireWe Also Value
Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) through the Arizona State Board of Technical RegistrationExperience in the following air quality permitting areas: Non-Title V, PSD, and Major New Source Review, NSPS, NESHAP, and BACT requirementsEffective project management skills, including the ability to assess and prioritize multiple tasks, projects, and demandsJob Contributions
Review, approve, and disapprove performance test protocols and reports. Perform complex engineering calculations and analyses of the design and operation of various industrial processes and air pollution control equipment to assess and quantify emissionsObserve and document performance tests, calibrations, and quality assurance processes to ensure the proper implementation of test methodsInterpret and apply federal and local rules, test methods, and regulations pertaining to air qualityProvide clear and accurate technical guidance to the regulated community, consultants, attorneys, other regulatory agencies, and the public regarding air quality regulationsCollaborate with regulatory agencies such as USEPA, Arizona Department of Environmental Quality, and other Arizona counties for regulation interpretation and to provide input on regional issuesProvide technical expertise to other departmental employees during rule development, permit writing, departmental policy and procedure development, inspection activities, and enforcement actionsOther job duties as assignedWorking Conditions
Exerting 20 - 25 pounds occasionally, 10 - 25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 pounds constantlyThe work will occur in an office and field environment. While performing the duties and responsibilities, the employee may be exposed to loud noise, noxious odors, unsanitary conditions, chemicals, electricity, moving mechanical parts, varying weather conditions, and other related conditions and situations. Position is subject to atmospheric conditions: Fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilationMust manage frequent interruptions, time pressures, high work volumes, multiple and complicated tasks, unscheduled tasks, team-oriented activities, prompt decision-making, and interaction with government officials and the public. Occasionally ascends/descends ladders and stairways to access test locations. Must constantly maintain concentration, accuracy, ethical behavior, and a professional demeanorProtective Equipment Required
