Job Summary:
The Material Handler is responsible for moving, storing, and managing materials within a warehouse, manufacturing facility, or distribution center. This role involves loading and unloading materials, ensuring proper storage, and supplying production lines or shipping areas. The Material Handler plays a critical role in maintaining an organized and efficient workflow while adhering to safety protocols and handling equipment such as forklifts or pallet jacks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Material Handling & Movement:
- Load and unload incoming and outgoing materials using forklifts, pallet jacks, or other equipment.
- Move materials to designated storage areas, production lines, or shipping areas according to instructions.
- Ensure proper labeling, packing, and tracking of materials throughout the warehouse or facility.
- Inventory Management:
- Track and record inventory levels, reporting any discrepancies or shortages to the supervisor.
- Assist in cycle counts and physical inventory checks to ensure accuracy of stock.
- Keep materials organized and stored in a safe, orderly manner.
- Shipping & Receiving Support:
- Assist with preparing materials for shipment, ensuring they are properly packaged and labeled.
- Receive and inspect incoming shipments, verifying quantities and conditions of items.
- Maintain documentation related to shipping and receiving, including packing lists and inventory logs.
- Equipment Operation & Maintenance:
- Safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material-handling equipment.
- Conduct routine inspections and maintenance of equipment, reporting any issues or malfunctions to the supervisor.
- Follow all safety procedures when operating machinery or handling materials.
- Safety & Compliance:
- Adhere to all safety regulations, ensuring the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Keep work areas clean and free of debris, maintaining a safe and organized environment.
- Report any accidents, injuries, or unsafe conditions to the supervisor immediately.
- Documentation & Reporting:
- Complete and maintain accurate records related to material movement, inventory, and shipments.
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to ensure smooth material flow and resolve any issues.
Qualifications:
- Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent (required).
- Previous experience in a warehouse or material handling role (preferred).
- Forklift certification (preferred but may be provided by employer
- Skills:
- Ability to operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material-handling equipment safely.
- Basic math and inventory management skills.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
- *Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift, carry, and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
- Comfortable working in various environmental conditions, such as hot or cold warehouse environments.
