About the DepartmentUChicagoGRAD, a part of the Office of the Provost that supports graduate education across the University, is an innovative national model for preparing graduate students and postdocs to succeed while at UChicago and beyond. With teams focusing on admissions, fellowship advising, writing support and public speaking training, diversity initiatives, career exploration and planning, and administration, UChicagoGRAD works with campus partners to support students and postdocs at every stage of their academic careers and beyond. UChicagoGRAD functions as a one-stop shop for graduate students and postdocs to access resources that support timely degree completion and to enhance professional preparation that helps them translate their degrees into a variety of careers. UChicagoGRAD works with academic departments and divisions as well as campus-wide offices to develop and implement outreach, recruitment, and yield efforts; graduate and postdoc-focused programs, workshops, and events; training and support tailored to UChicago graduate students and postdocs; and administrative practices and policies in support of graduate education.
Job SummaryUnder the direction of the Office of the Provost, the Director of Graduate Enrollment Operations and Policy will serve as the central resource for graduate admissions policies, Slate administration, and enrollment operations. The director will support enrollment strategies to help divisions increase applications and selectivity, improve yield, and increase net tuition revenue. The director will convene enrollment leaders from across the University to advance collaboration, training, analysis and sharing enrollment best practices. The director will ensure the optimization of the University’s Technolutions Slate used by graduate divisions. The director will also support efforts for central outreach and marketing to advance graduate enrollments.
Responsibilities
Liaise with partner offices to implement relevant admissions-related policies and data, including Office of Legal Counsel, Equal Opportunity Programs, Institutional Analysis, the Registrar, the Office of International Affairs, Graduate Financial Aid, and other campus offices.
Provide institutional guidance and coordinate with the Slate team, working with divisions/schools to ensure clear communication, enable appropriate prioritization, and ensure the graduate Slate instances are maximizing technical capabilities.
Implement additional uses of Slate, including applications for FLAS, summer programs, exchange programs.
Oversee non-technical aspects of the annual application review.
Work with Institutional Analysis to inform admissions strategies and meet reporting obligations.
Coordinate and oversee online resources for incoming students through Canvas, webinars, and email communications.
Support outreach and recruitment activities undertaken by direct reports and also campus partners; support central marketing efforts and engagement of prospective students.
Inform creation of materials related to graduate programs at UChicago, including print materials, electronic communications, website.
Support off-campus travel and recruitment opportunities and on-campus yield activities, including campus tours.
Develop operational plans to develop and execute admissions strategies, policies, and procedures.
Maintain relationships with all organizations and individuals involved in the admissions process. Develop and monitor the admissions budget.
Perform other related work as needed.
Minimum QualificationsEducation:Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.
Work Experience:Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 7+ years of work experience in a related job discipline.
Preferred QualificationsEducation:
Advanced degree (e.g., Master's degree).
Experience:
Experience in research-intensive university setting.
Experience in data collection and analysis strongly preferred.
Technical Skills or Knowledge:
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Familiarity with standard tools and software, such as MS Office suite.
Proficiency with Slate.
Preferred Competencies
Strong administrative and project management skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Independent decision-making skills.
Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
Familiarity with graduate education and admissions, specifically, in a research-intensive university setting.
Ability to communicate effectively with and understand the needs of campus partners with disparate priorities and needs.
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
