About the DepartmentThe MS in Applied Data Science program (MS-ADS) is a professional graduate program within the Data Science Institute (DSI) and Physical Sciences Division (PSD) at the University of Chicago. The DSI executes the University of Chicago’s bold, innovative vision of Data Science as an evolving discipline; the PSD explores new frontiers in the physical and mathematical sciences to lead the world in inquiry and impact. The purpose of MS-ADS is to advance the careers of diverse students for technical- and/or management-focused careers in data science. Students may apply for full- or part-time admissions for the In-Person Program, Online Program, or Online MBA/MS Program. Admitted students benefit from a dedicated, full-service team in support of robust student and alumni outcomes. The MS-ADS program is located at the university’s NBC Tower space in downtown Chicago, IL.

Job SummaryThe portfolio for this position includes the MS in Applied Data Science’s (MS-ADS) large graduate student body of part-time and full-time In-Person Program, the part-time and full-time Online Program, and the new MBA/MS dual degree program in addition to future degree offerings that are in-process. Reporting to the MS-ADS Director of Enrollment Management, the Associate Director of Enrollment Management supports all aspects of not only admissions and recruitment but enrollment management as a whole—including but not limited to backend systems, application management in coordination with Physical Sciences Division (PSD) deadlines and procedures, year-round prospect management, year-round strategic recruitment and yield efforts (in-person and virtual), process improvement strategy, among other duties as assigned. This team member works closely with central offices in the PSD, the Registrar’s Office, Office of International Affairs, and program leadership to design, execute, and assess the recruitment and admissions strategy for the In-Person and Online MS-ADS programs. The Associate Director will join a mid-sized team of instructional services/innovation, enrollment management, student affairs, career services/external partnerships, and marketing/advertising staff—in addition to a cadre of industry-expert faculty and instructors. The Associate Director provides critical support for daily operations and strategy for this revenue generating master’s program and will work with minimal to no guidance to recruit, evaluate, and select applicants for admission in coordination with department, division, and central university partners. In addition, the new hire will collaborate as needed with internal and external marketing/advertising staff to establish competitive recruitment goals, objectives, and strategies. In partnership with the Director of Enrollment Management, the Associate Director develops detailed annual and quarterly recruitment plans to establish the flow of outreach activities and communications. This position will have partial oversight of any temporary student and/or staff admissions workers for one or more quarters during an academic year. This position is further unique in that the Associate Director will have the opportunity to impact how master’s programs are shaping the evolving, growing field of data science. This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule.

Responsibilities

Collaborates with Program Directors, Marketing, and Student Affairs to plan and execute strategic recruitment and yield strategies for all programs within MS-ADS— including the Online and Joint Degree Program(s).

Independently manages all aspects of the program’s In-Person part-time and full-time, Online part-time and full-time, and MBA/MS joint degree admissions and enrollment processes to ensure superior prospective and admitted student experience and operational efficiency.

Independently guides prospective students through nuanced top of the funnel activities (i.e., the point of inquiry) to and through enrollment (i.e., matriculation to the University).

Provides tailored support for student matriculation activities—including but not limited to participating in student onboarding in coordination with the MS-ADS Student Affairs team.

Independently develops operational plans to execute admissions strategies, policies, and procedures in alignment with the PSD and DSI.

Acts as a liaison between program staff and prospective students.

Develops innovative techniques for prospect outreach.

Manages outbound recruitment and yield efforts (e.g., phone calls, emails, webinars, custom in-person or virtual group events).

Manages and trains any graduate student and/or temporary recruitment staff.

Responsible and accountable for maintaining and disseminating the MS-ADS Slate Dashboard reports to senior leadership.

Responsible for the creation of admissions reports with minimal to no direction from the direct manager.

Leverages the University’s Slate system to create improved processes for recruitment and matriculation initiatives.

Through data analysis, monitors how prospective students learn about the program among the variety of national and international highly competitive peer and near-peer programs; monitors the corresponding quality of prospective students from different sources.

Implements emerging, cost-effective IT solutions for innovative student recruitment activities in order to stand out among national/international competitors.

Supports competitor market data research with some direction from the direct manager.

Supports all other data collection or data analysis efforts as led or initiated by the Director of Enrollment Management or other program senior faculty leadership.

Identifies top areas for cost-effective, high-yield domestic recruitment travel with little to no direction from the direct manager.

Works closely with the MS-ADS Assistant Director of Marketing/Advertising and Communications to effectively leverage an enrollment management advertising strategy each fiscal year.

Maintains grounding of latest recruitment and admission trends through industry insights.

Develops and communicates program priorities and performance standards and assesses operations using these criteria. Plans and conducts quality assurance reviews and recommends changes as appropriate.

Manages program budgets and recommends or makes budgetary recommendations.

Has a deep understanding when interacting with faculty, researchers and staff for committee work or information.

Performs other work as needed.

Minimum QualificationsEducation:Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Work Experience:Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 5-7 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Certifications:None required.

Preferred QualificationsExperience:

Previous experience working in higher education or related field.

Previous experience working with international student admissions.

Technical Skills or Knowledge:

Knowledge of marketing and social media vehicles for engaging with prospects.

Experience using Slate, Destiny, Salesforce, or other CRM.
