What You Will Be Doing
The Member Benefits team works together to help our members through the complicated transitions of retirement. As a part of our team, you have the potential to assist the beneficiary member to receive monetary and/or health benefits process retirement benefits and claims. The incumbent will also produce retirement projections and vesting letters for various retirement plans, these include Public Employee's Retirement System (PERS), Teachers' Retirement System (TRS), Judicial Retirement System (JRS), and the Defined Contribution (DCR) plans.Our Organization, Mission, and Culture

This position is centrally located in the heart of downtown Juneau at the State Office Building on the 6th floor. Ideal applicants will be customer service oriented and have the ability to prioritize responsibilities to best suit the needs of the division. Working hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.Who We Are Looking For
To be successful in the position, the candidate should be able to demonstrate some or all of the following core competencies (knowledge, skills, and abilities):Arithmetic/Mathematical Reasoning: Performs computations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division correctly; solves practical problems by choosing appropriately from a variety of mathematical techniques such as formulas and percentages.Customer Service: Anticipates and meets the needs of both internal and external customers. Delivers high-quality products and services; is committed to continuous improvement.Flexibility: Is open to change and new information; rapidly adapts to new information, changing conditions, or unexpected obstacles.Reading Comprehension: Understands and interprets written material, including technical material, rules, regulations, instructions, reports, charts, graphs, or tables; applies what is learned from written material to specific situations.Computer Skills: Uses computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work.Minimum Qualifications
Six months of experience as a Retirement and Benefits Technician 1 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.ORSix months of entry-level technical experience that required applying basic knowledge of a retirement program, benefits program, human resources policy, or labor relations guidelines, or in preparing, receiving, reviewing and processing health, life, or disability insurance claims or payments, or processing budgetary or financial documents.OROne year of advanced clerical experience in an office environment where the work supported the efforts of technical or professional staff, and required some application of guidelines and policies to meet assigned responsibilities.OROne year of post-secondary education (32 semester hours or 48 quarter hours from an accredited college or university equals one year) in any field.Application Information
