This position, Data Scientist, as an AI Factory engineering staff, is responsible for researching and developing Data Science algorithms and codes for faculty and students across Gonzaga University as well as community partners.Essential FunctionsInvestigate and Develop Data Science algorithms and code for Partners
Actively work with GU faculty, students, staff, and other partners to investigate and develop specialized data science algorithms and codes for research, teaching, and business operations.Independently develop custom data science prototype codes that fit partner’s needs.Assist partners to acquire necessary knowledge and skills to use and expand upon the prototypes.
Research and report data science advances
Proactively and independently explore and attain specialized data science advances and technologies from a variety of sources.Independently apply attained data science advances to support partners’ research, teaching, and business operation needs.Independently and regularly investigate data science advances and report such advances with the Director and the other AI Factory staff.Work closely with the Director and partners to disseminate research findings through paper writing and assess commercialization viability.
Develop training and learning material
Independently design data science exercises that will provide experiential learning experience for the learners who may have diverse background in different sessions.Collaborate with the Director and other AI Factory staff to develop training exercises and material for faculty, students, staff, and extended partners.Assist in delivery and assessment of the training and learning sessions.
Supervise student assistants for AI Factory research
Supervise student(s) to support the research and develop data science algorithms advancements.Support student learning through mentorship in their research endeavors.
Assist the AI Factory Manager to manage the AI Factory
Investigate, assess, and provide information to the AI Factory Manager to curate computing systems for the AI Factory.Assist the AI Factory Manager to maintain and secure the virtualized environment and best practices in using data science tools.
