Lions Outback Vision (LOV) was established in 2010 with the support of Lions Eye Institute and the University of Western Australia. We are a small but dedicated team of eye health professionals that are firmly committed to improving the eye health of rural, remote and Indigenous West Australians.
The Opportunity
Commencing in January 2025. The Senior Aboriginal Liaison Officer will work in collaboration with the LOV team, under the direction of the Aboriginal Eye Health Coordinator (AEHC), to ensure services to Aboriginal patients that contribute to Lions Outback Vision operational goals and work plans, resulting in better eye health outcomes for Aboriginal people. Key responsibilities include:
Working with the team to ensure culturally appropriate care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patient care across WA but with a focus on Metropolitan service support. Communicate with regional Aboriginal medical services to assist patients in attending appointments and with follow up treatments. Working with the AEHC to connect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients with required support services. Working with the eye health team to support patient assessment and triaging for Aboriginal patients. Complete paperwork supporting patient care. Work with the administration team to book Aboriginal patient appointments. Complete audits of the patient data base to identify patients who need more follow-up. Review patient records to ensure that appropriate recalls and appointments are being made. Current and unincumbered ‘C’ class drivers’ licence or equivalent. Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to manage client records. Facilitate the building respectful and trusting relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients, services and supports. Knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health issues and some of the barriers to support. A desire to support better outcomes for Aboriginal health. Previous experience in an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander support role. In return we will offer:
