The individual should possess 3-4 years of teaching experience in a classroom environment (K-12, or post-secondary) which is an essential skill set required for curriculum planning, integration, and assessment in this position.Directly related experience outside of the classroom is deemed eligible experience as an educational administrator with higher education experience at the terminal degree level. Position requires proposal writing and engagement with a variety of people which requires that the person should also be able to write well and have good human relations, interpersonal, and organizational skills.EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCEThe individual qualifying for this administrative position should have a

Master’s degree

in teacher education, general education, educational administration, or related field with 3-5 years of related teaching, administrative, and related experience to include classroom experience. An educational administrator with a terminal degree is eligible for this position and is deemed a highly qualified candidate.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESStrong organizational, facilitation, and presentation skills, and a strong attention to detail.Proven track record in effectively working with employees and the ability to present himself/herself as a credible representative of the Teacher Professional Development & Preparation Center (Program).Excellent verbal and written communication skills to communicate effectively with employees, colleagues, and the general public.Ability to use independent judgment, to handle multiple tasks, and to maintain a high level of confidentiality.Ability to develop a broad knowledge of the rules and regulations of the college.Skill in reviewing Teacher Education Preparation policies and procedures for State requirements.Organize the Teacher Professional Development and Preparation Center (Program) so that it is resourceful to students preparing to be teachers as well as community clients (teachers) interested in professional development, CEUs, etc.Develop a strong recruitment, admissions, and retention program to encourage minority students to go into and prepare for the teaching profession by working collaboratively with the Dean of Academics at the College.Organize and develop training around selected College and State of Mississippi Teacher Education Programs at the 14 plus 4-year accredited institutions with teacher training programs, that comply with state certification requirements.Organize sessions to involve teacher education students in studying and preparing to take/pass the Praxis exam and other educational professional development activities; and attain CEU credits.Develop and implement annual training sessions to involve teaching professionals in upgrading skills in the use of information technology and STEM activities at elementary and secondary levels of education, as well as other skill areas in teaching.Develop ways to be a support arm for Child Development Technology inclusive of the Career Technical Educational Programs.Work collaboratively to publicize the program and to monitor the activity of program’s student participants (Identify eligible students in each division, maintain data, create means of continual contact).Develop follow-up procedures on teacher education students as it relates to their passing/failing the required exams for certifications and to their remaining in teacher education at four-year institutions.Oversee data collection and preparation of data analysis.Assist in arranging local elementary/secondary schools teaching internships (selected students).Secure strong consultants to lead workshops/special conferences designed to help students increase their knowledge in teaching.Select related off-campus conferences for the related staff to attend to broaden their teacher education knowledge bases and experiences.Prepare and submit to the Title III Executive Director monthly reports on the progress of the program.Develop additional grant proposals.Organize and assist with Faculty Orientation as needed.Provide leadership and remain abreast of new developments in educational preparation.Ability to effectively engage with external stakeholders such as superintendents, MS Department of Education, College education staff, etc.Serve effectively on committees, special task forces, or with the student organizations as assigned.Perform other duties as may be assigned by the appropriate authority.Maintain knowledge of diversity-related issues, legislation, and best practices.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:Supervision includes training assigned employees (Administrative Assistant and others); Oversee the work, schedules, and coordination of the student workers/coordinators.Collaborate with other departments and divisions to develop, implement, and monitor professional development for faculty/staff. Meets with students, faculty, and staff to provide academic success strategies. Hire, train, and schedule peer tutors.Meets regularly with academic and career/Technical Deans, academic departments, career/technical student support coordinators, and other student support programs to discuss students' academic success needs.Performs other duties assigned by Executive Director and/or VP of Hinds CC – Utica Campus.PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
