DEPARTMENT: Associate Degree Nursing

GENERAL STATEMENT OF THE FUNCTION

Plan, organize, and implement associate degree nursing program goals and activities, including traditional (generic) option and Transition to RN option.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

1) Minimum of a Master's degree in Nursing required;

2) Minimum of two (2) years' experience as an associate degree nursing instructor;

3) Hold an unencumbered registered nurse license to practice in Mississippi.

4) Demonstrated leadership abilities and participation in program activities, i.e., team leader, committee chairs, etc., preferred

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES , include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Maintain knowledge of diversity-related issues, legislation, and best practices.

Implement all duties and responsibilities of an instructor, as assigned.

Serve as a program representative.

Coordinate or delegate to an appropriate program instructor, all student activities sponsored by the program.

Maintain confidentiality of student, faculty, and staff information.

Help recruit and recommend prospective instructors to the Dean of Nursing.

Serve on curriculum committee and report to Dean of Nursing all curricular requests/modifications prior to program approval.

Submit updated course syllabi to the Dean of Nursing.

Assist with Associate Degree Nursing Handbook modifications/ updates.

Review all textbook changes and requests submitted by the resource committee.

Submit semester textbook requests to the appropriate bookstore personnel.

Assist the Dean of Nursing to meet reporting requirements of the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL) and Accreditation Commission in Education for Nursing (ACEN).

Attend professional meetings as approved by immediate supervisor.

Actively participate in Associate Degree Nursing Council and statewide Deans and Directors meetings as scheduled.

Attend weekly (or as assigned) director meetings with the Dean of Nursing.

Collaborate with all directors to ensure that program guidelines, curriculum, etc., are being followed for each option and location.

Perform other duties as assigned by the appropriate authority.

Assist new faculty with program specific onboarding, such as electronic resources, clinical repositories, and simulation courses.

Function as lead instructor in LMS course for all incoming ADN students for each campus and option.

Assist students with exit interviews and monthly remediation meetings.

Assist with perspective instructor interviews, as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Exercise general supervision of program instructors.

Ensure team meetings of the program occur at least monthly and that minutes are filed with the Division of Nursing administrative assistant.

Preside over program meetings as delegated by the Dean of Nursing.

Assist the Dean of Nursing with supervising the program budget in relation to instructional materials.

Review master calendars of class and clinical rotations for final approval.

Submit proposed semester program schedules to the Dean of Nursing.

Collaborate with the clinical records coordinator to ensure faculty and students have met clinical health requirements.

Collaborate with faculty in monitoring student downloads in testing platform.

Approve instructor time-off and leave requests and monthly submission of time in Workday attendance and records for program instructors.

Conduct an evaluation of program instructors and support staff as assigned.

Develop and execute a plan for professional development for assigned instructors.

Serve as a faculty resource for commonly used resources.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, and the employee is occasionally required to perform job responsibilities in the outdoors and off site.
