This position is located in the Eastern Region of North Carolina. The primary facilities this position is assigned to are located in the following facilities:
Carteret, Eastern, Greene, Neuse, Pamlico and Johnston.
The Float Nurse provides professional nursing in the care, treatment, observation and counsel of offenders in accordance with standard nursing practice and theory, agency regulations, physicians' orders and instructions from higher level nursing staff.
Position duties include clinical responsibilities which covers the whole spectrum of assessment and intervention necessary to maintain maximum function and to promote well-being and are inclusive of, but not limited to, sick call/assessment, assisting the physician, carrying out orders, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care, responding to emergencies, facilitating mental and dental health care, preparing medication for administration and administering medications, monitoring for communicable diseases, conducting Chronic Disease Clinics, updating physical examinations, teaching, delegating to or supervising other personnel in implementing the treatment regimen.
The position may supervise subordinate staff. This is a floating position and will provide staffing coverage based on the need throughout facilities.

Division of Comprehensive Health Services
is dedicated to providing evidence-based, compassionate, and constitutionally-consistent medical care to all offenders in custody. Their goal is to ensure that all offenders receive full-spectrum medical care from the time of entry until their release.
The team of physicians, nurses, behavioral health services, dental services, psychiatric services, pharmacy services, and licensed healthcare administration services work together to provide emergent, acute, routine, and chronic health care, as well as preventive medicine at all prison facilities. They also coordinate with specialists and other clinical consultants outside of prisons throughout the state to ensure comprehensive health and well-being towards a safe transition from prison, improving public health, and decreasing recidivism.
