Job SummaryThe Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) plays a crucial role in the rehabilitation process by assisting licensed physical therapists in implementing treatment plans designed to improve patients' mobility, strength, and overall physical function. The PTA works closely with patients across various settings, including skilled nursing facilities, acute care, home health, and outpatient clinics. This position requires a compassionate individual who is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for patients through effective therapeutic interventions.
DutiesAssist physical therapists in conducting assessments and developing individualized treatment plans for patients.Implement therapeutic exercises and modalities as directed by the supervising physical therapist.Monitor patient progress and report changes or concerns to the physical therapist.Educate patients and their families on exercises, home care techniques, and safety measures.Document patient care activities accurately in compliance with facility policies and regulatory standards.Maintain a clean and organized treatment area, ensuring all equipment is sanitized and functional.Participate in discharge planning to ensure continuity of care for patients transitioning out of therapy services.
SkillsStrong knowledge of anatomy and physiology to effectively assist in patient evaluations and treatments.Experience or familiarity with various patient populations, including geriatrics, pediatrics, orthopedics, and acute care settings.Proficiency in specialized techniques such as trigger point therapy and discharge planning processes.Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team while demonstrating excellent communication skills.Compassionate approach to patient care that fosters trust and encourages patient engagement in their rehabilitation journey.Adaptability to work in diverse environments such as skilled nursing facilities or home health settings while managing varying patient needs effectively.
