Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and meticulous Mortgage Underwriter with certifications in FHA, VA, and USDA loan programs to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of mortgage underwriting guidelines and regulations, and a proven history of making sound underwriting decisions.
Key ResponsibilitiesEvaluate Loan Applications:
Review and analyze loan applications, credit reports, income documentation, and property appraisals to determine borrower eligibility for Conventional, FHA, VA, and USDA loans.Ensure Compliance:
Ensure all loan files comply with federal and state regulations, as well as company policies and guidelines.Risk Assessment:
Assess the risk of each loan application and make informed decisions to approve, suspend, or deny loans based on established criteria.Communication:
Communicate effectively with loan officers, processors, and other stakeholders to gather necessary information and provide updates on loan status.Documentation:
Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of all underwriting decisions and ensure timely processing of loan files.Continuous Improvement:
Stay updated on changes in mortgage regulations and underwriting guidelines and participate in ongoing training and development opportunities.Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor's degree in business administration, Finance, Information Technology, or a related field is highly preferred.Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in mortgage banking highly preferred. Certifications for FHA and VA are highly preferred.Skills:
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.In-depth knowledge of mortgage banking processes and regulations.Proficiency in mortgage software, CRM systems, and MS Office Suite.Exceptional communication and people skills.
Work Context
Employees in this position work closely with other underwriters to finish analyzing loan applications in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Also, underwriters frequently interact with and must maintain positive working relationships with other departments in mortgage such as loan officers, loan processors, and the closing department.
