Position SummaryWhat do you get when you combine a keen eye, creative flair and an innovative approach? The next Graphic Designer that will join us on UCLA Alumni Affairs’ Marketing and Communications team where you will plan and create visual designs to communicate ideas that inspire, inform and/or captivate our stakeholders. Using your experience and expertise in design strategy, production and execution, you will work with a variety of media to achieve artistic and effective visuals impressions and materials to support our programs and events. This is a great opportunity to serve as a strategic partner to our Senior Director and Alumni Affairs leadership where you’ll work collaboratively to develop, promote and execute gateways where design and design thinking positively impact us through best practices, internal analytics and other means. We will look to you for ideas and feedback in how to enhance our graphic approaches and keep our designs and user touchpoints current, fresh and innovative. In addition to expanding your design skills, you will also expand other skills through providing leadership in hiring and managing student and/or contract designers, managing other marketing/communications projects and building a wide array of client/constituent relationships. QualificationsPrior experience in a marketing/communications environment with a strong creative flair, sense of versatility, conceptual/visual ability and originality. (Required)Experience in and understanding of multimedia design; experience building files for both print and digital as demonstrated through a portfolio with a variety of deliverables represented. (Required)Experience in and responding to copy, design, marketing strategy and social media strategy inquiries and concerns. (Required)Experience working in an educational and/or non-profit, client service-oriented environment is highly desirable. (Preferred)Skillful in Mac OS X and Windows; Adobe Creative Cloud including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, XD, Premiere, After Effects; and Microsoft Office suite of applications; able to promptly and effectively learn new technologies. (Required)Design knowledge in UI/UX and of common design tools. (Required)Skill in graphic design and layout, type, font, size, and color with the ability to conform to an organization's established style guide; knowledge of UCLA/Alumni Affairs protocols and channels for communication internally and externally. (Required)Solid skills to create, develop and implement comprehensive long and short term strategic design/communications plans. (Required)Diplomatic with well-developed interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to build cooperative, effective relationships with a wide variety of internal departments and teams as well as external constituents. (Required)Solid written communication skills to prepare, proofread, and edit materials for correct grammar, punctuation, spelling and syntax with excellent attention to detail and an acute sense of accuracy. (Required)Ability to interact, communicate, present ideas and work as part of a team toward a common goal. (Required)Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize assignments; work independently; provide proficient follow-up; and make effective timely decisions, despite tight deadlines and competing requirements in a fast-paced, often unpredictable environment. (Required)Skill and resourcefulness in using references to gather needed information to complete projects. (Required)Supervisory skills to effectively manage student workers and volunteers, including training, delegation follow-up and evaluation. (Required)Knowledge of UCLA programs, services, departments, forms, policies and procedures, including appropriate management of confidential alumni information. (Preferred)
