POSITION SUMMARY:

The Vice President (VP) of Resource Development is a pivotal executive role responsible for orchestrating business development efforts to achieve Boys & Girls Clubs of Bloomington’s resource development goals. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer and serving as a member of the Leadership Team, this leader drives the organization’s resource development and partnering strategy, ensuring alignment with overarching and strategic goals.

Identifies and creates opportunities to build public and donor awareness of Club programming and impact. Manages donor database and system. Supports board and staff efforts per annual strategic plan goals.

Designs, implements and evaluates, in consultation with the CEO, Board of Directors, and Board Committees, the immediate and long-range fundraising program of the organization including annual campaign, capital and endowment giving, planned and deferred giving, fundraising events, grant proposals and other formal gift initiatives. Builds, sustains and monitors philanthropic relationships with a pool of donors, civic, prospects and foundations.

The VP of Resource Development will direct marketing (both internal and external), communications, and public relations for Boys & Girls Clubs of Bloomington, ensuring all marketing activities are aligned with the mission and strategic priorities of the organization. Provide executive leadership for fundraising, development, and marketing efforts while demonstrating the core values of Boys & Girls Clubs of Bloomington by modeling integrity, citizenship, teamwork, and excellence.

KEY ROLES & ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manages staff including the Donor Relations Director, Events Director, Marketing Director, Grants Director, and interns.

Train employees and volunteers on communicating the life-changing mission of Boys & Girls Clubs of Bloomington in a manner that leads to philanthropic investment.

Serve as principal partner for advertising/PR partners/agencies that augment and maximize efforts of in-house talent and maximize earned media (local, regional, national).

Develop and monitor resource development budget and track fundraising income and compile income/variance reports.

Help craft a positive image of Boys & Girls Clubs of Bloomington, weaving CEO into brand awareness and advancement as the organization’s chief storyteller. As a public speaker or a participant through community engagement and acting as a representative for the Club in all communities, for example, serving on community boards and attending community events.

FUNDRAISING & DEVELOPMENT:

Secure funding through annual, capital, and endowment campaigns, events, planned giving, major gifts and grants, by actively participating in the solicitation of individual and corporate donations, funding, and sponsorships.

Support Boys & Girls Clubs of Bloomington's long-range strategic plan through the establishment of annual development plans and a fundraising budget.

Build relationships with key stakeholders such as corporations, elected officials, non-profit organizations, foundations, and citizens of the community.

Provide regular fundraising and budget reports to Boys & Girls Clubs of Bloomington’s CEO and Board of Directors.

Help create a philanthropic culture among board members and employees.

Lead major events to fuel annual campaigns, donor cultivation & stewardship, community engagement, and mission awareness.

Plan, develop, and implement policies, procedures, and best practices, assuring compliance with all regulations, laws, and by-laws.

Develop and manage alumni activities to drive support for the organization.

Work with HR and Program staff to steward and cultivate volunteers and community partners.

Manage Donor Database initiatives and activity for completeness and accuracy to maximize fundraising and relationship development/management efforts.

MARKETING:

Provide leadership to the marketing and communications department, overseeing all internal and external communications, brand management, and marketing strategy.

In collaboration with department leadership, create annual plans and budgets followed by annual creative campaigns for each area of the organization.

Create and implement a comprehensive marketing, communications, and public relations process that conveys the mission to all donors, members, families, and partners in a consistent compelling manner that leads to increased earned media and philanthropic investment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful applicant will have at least 5 years of work experience in a Boys & Girls Club or other organization/company with an emphasis on fundraising, marketing, sales, management, budgeting, community and/or public relations.

The successful applicant will have at least 3 years of experience in a leadership role.

Proven management and leadership capabilities.

Proven track record of achieving revenue targets of over $1M annually.

Advanced degree is preferred.

Budgeting experience is preferred.

Knowledge of accounting principles as they relate to fundraising issues is preferred.

Track record of success securing six and seven-figure gifts/grants and completion of capital campaigns is preferred.

Demonstrated ability to think strategically and thorough strategic development.

Excellent presentation, verbal, and written communication skills.

Strong executive presence.

Thorough understanding of all components of a diversified funding base.

Good computer skills and knowledge of database programs, especially contact management systems.

Demonstrated ability to prospect, cultivate and manage new accounts.

SKILLS NEEDED:

High energy and a passion for the Boys & Girls Club mission is essential.

Ability to construct, articulate and implement strategic and department development plans.

Leadership, team building, interpersonal, and time management skills.

Must be able to generate trust and build alliances in the organization, with key community organizations, city, county and state governments and other key constituents.

A polished public speaker and presenter with outstanding media relations skills.

A critical thinker with attention to detail who regularly seeks innovative solutions to complex issues.

Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive attitude.

Flexible, with the ability to know when to shift direction and when to be persistent.

Must communicate concisely both in writing and verbally with a wide variety of constituents.

Marketing experience at a senior management level; experience with brand management, print, radio, television and electronic/social media advertising and programming.

Ability to build a multi-dimensional development department.

Must have the ability to manage public relations programs in multiple cities, simultaneously.

Humility, charisma, and fun are essential.

Must be able to utilize technology tools.
