Automation Engineer

Design, specify, and develop automated manufacturing systems with an emphasis on improved efficiency and cost reductions of various business units. Complete continuous improvement projects in support of new and existing products. Provide daily engineering support to current automation and direct the technical efforts of technicians in support of assigned projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Analyze current processes to identify areas for automation and implement effective solutions to increase efficiency or implement cost reductions using automation in current injection molding areas (black molding and clear molding). Design and develop automated systems, including PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, and robotics to optimize production processes. Develop and maintain automation software, including writing and troubleshooting code for control systems. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, maintenance, and IT, to integrate automation solutions into existing operations. Perform testing, validation, and troubleshooting of automated systems to ensure they meet performance and safety standards. Create and maintain technical documentation, including system designs, user manuals, and maintenance procedures. Provide training and support to operators and maintenance staff on the use and upkeep of automated systems. Stay updated with the latest trends and advancements in automation technology to continuously improve processes and systems. Inspect product and processes to ensure product meets dimensional and performance specifications post automation sequences. Repair or arrange for repair of equipment in the manufacturing area as required. Work with other business units as required in support of additional automation projects. EDUCATION AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in engineering field, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred Minimum 3-5 years' experience in a medium volume manufacturing environment (injection molding, die casting, machining, assembly, etc.) Proficiency in maintaining highly sophisticated automated equipment Working knowledge of machining, tools, jigs, fixturing, and assembly practices Creative thinking, strong analytical skills, and excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills Experience with 2D and 3D CAD for design and documentation of schematics, programs, components, and assemblies Experience with industrial software programming, such as PLCs, HMIs, and IoT controllers Experience with data acquisition and statistical data analysis Advanced PC skills with standard MS Office software
