The opportunity
We currently have an opportunity for a Principal Cloud Engineer to join our Coporate IT team based in our Canton, MA office or remote within the United States. The Cloud Engineer is an experienced technology individual contributor that will help create, define, and execute cloud infrastructure solutions for Intact Specialty. The Cloud Engineer role is pivotal in designing, constructing, and managing a robust, secure, and scalable cloud infrastructure, primarily on Azure. The Engineer will engage in the development of infrastructure-as-code (IaC) projects, CI/CD pipeline automation, and integrating security best practices into every phase of deployment. The role is crucial for designing and implementing cloud solutions that are not only effective but also secure and compliant with industry standards. This role demands a hands-on independent approach, with the ability to understand architecture direction and to mentor and oversee less experienced infrastructure operations engineers and contractors.
He/she will work closely with the lead engineers and architects to understand the business need, design, develop, and tune/optimize solutions to support the network, security platforms, core business and integration software services, the data & analytics platforms, and the engineering environment monitoring, logging, and alerting for these, and create/update documentation of the technologies being deployed. The Engineer will be curious and interested in the research and use of cloud offerings and capabilities. In addition, the Engineer will partner with his/her lead and peers within technology to ensure alignment, architectural harmony, prioritization, and share ideas. The Cloud Engineer is a technologist who is passionate about technology and uses this inquisitive nature to anticipate and test IT industry technologies and future directions and brings the results of that passion to benefit his/her delivery.
Some of the Principal Cloud Engineer responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Design, implement, and manage Azure cloud infrastructures with a focus on key services such as Azure DNS, VNets, ExpressRoute, WAFs, firewalls, network and application load balancers, ensuring optimal performance, availability, and scalability across multiple availability zones and regions.Utilize Terraform for IaC to automate and manage infrastructure provisioning, coupled with GitHub Actions for seamless CI/CD pipeline integration, facilitating automated builds and deployments. Ensure testing and IaC code quality. Manage and improve the DevSecOps platformImplement and enforce cloud-native security measures, integrating Azure services like Sentinel and Defender, and third-party products such as Palo Alto for next-generation firewall capabilities, ensuring the infrastructure's integrity and compliance with security standards.Maintain expertise in Azure services including but not limited to VM, Blob storage, Database, Monitor, Functions, Files, Service Bus, Queue Storage, Event Grid, and Kubernetes for container orchestration, aiming for innovative, cost-effective, and performant cloud solutions.Oversee collaborations with third-party providers managing infrastructure operations. Ensure all deliverables are well-documented, supportable, and adhere to operational excellence, including DataDog for application performance monitoring and a SIEM solution.Participate in ITSM processes including incident, problem, change, and service management, focusing on maintaining high service reliability and availability through proactive observability and alerting strategies.Document infrastructure designs and implementations thoroughly, ensuring they meet business requirements and are built for operability, scalability, and maintainability.Stay up to date with emerging trends in cloud technologies, applying them to improve existing solutions to provide customers with better service at an optimal cost.Identifies opportunities for improvement in current technology and that of individual systems. Avoids the creation of, quickly identifies, and prioritizes the swift remediation of technical debt.The expertise you bring
Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related field, or 10 years equivalent work experience in technology architecture, software development, infrastructure engineering, cloud engineering, or similar roles.Excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation, and consultative skills for effective relationships and discussing technical concepts to a variety of audiences.Experience with programming and scripting languages (TypeScript, Java, Python, SQL, shell, etc.) a plus.Experience partnering closely with architects and technology leads.Experience with AWS - able to work with terraform in AWS if needed.Experience working in a hybrid on- and off-shore model, and hybrid on-premise/cloud environment.Our salary ranges are determined by many factors including location, role, experience and skillset of the candidate. The following ranges displayed reflect the target base salary for new hires, but your recruiter will share more specific compensation information with you during the hiring process. The typical base salary range for this position is: $160,000 - $212,000, based on the factors aforementioned. For candidates located in San Francisco, CA; Hoboken, NJ; and the New York City metro area, the base salary range is $186,000 -$218,000. In addition to base salary, full time Intact employees are also eligible for bonus potential and a full range of benefits to include but not limited to:
