Mach is a defense manufacturing company that builds munitions to help the United States win future wars. Backed by $85M in funding from top venture firms, our small lean team ideates, designs, manufactures, and sells cutting-edge weapons to the Department of Defense.
Role Summary:
The Mechanical Engineer will be a key player in the development of our advanced weapons systems, focusing on structures and manufacturing. This role demands deep technical skills in CAD and finite element analysis, as well as a comprehensive understanding of manufacturing techniques like machining, composites, 3D printing, and casting. You will be a core member of the design team, contributing substantially to multiple projects.
Key Responsibilities:
CAD Design: Leverage your proficiency in CAD to design various components across multiple projects, ensuring they are optimized for manufacturability. Structures and Manufacturability Analysis: Utilize your expertise in manufacturing techniques and finite element analysis to evaluate the structural integrity and manufacturability of designs. Prototype Assembly: Take an active role in the assembly and troubleshooting of completed designs, ensuring they meet all performance and quality metrics. Finite Element Analysis: Employ finite element analysis tools to simulate and analyze the mechanical behavior of components and structures. Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate your designs and analyses into the broader project scope. Materials Knowledge: Leverage your understanding of composites like carbon fiber or fiberglass to enrich the design and manufacturing process. Machining and Fabrication: Use hands-on experience in machining and fabrication to provide meaningful guidance in hardware design. Continuous Learning: Keep up-to-date with the latest technologies and methodologies in mechanical engineering and manufacturing to bring innovative solutions to the team. Quality Assurance: Ensure that all designs and assemblies meet predefined quality, performance, and safety standards. Documentation: Maintain meticulous records of designs, analyses, and manufacturing protocols for compliance and future reference. Qualifications: Proficiency in Solidworks or similar CAD software. Expertise in finite element analysis. Familiarity with CFD tools like Ansys and/or OpenFOAM is a plus. Hands-on experience with machining and fabrication. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
Ideal Candidate:
Someone who is not just a mechanical engineer by profession but also a hardware enthusiast at heart. Prior experience with aerospace hardware and a strong background in machining and composites will be highly valued. The ideal candidate will be a problem-solver who is adept at turning complex engineering challenges into practical, manufacturable solutions.
