Description:
This position will provideyou with the opportunity to directly apply your knowledge of civil/structuralengineering to substations and transmission lines, lead and direct a designteam, and mentor other engineers. Individualwill be responsible for the civil and structural design for substations andtransmission lines including grading and drainage, enclosures, interpreting andevaluating survey data and geotechnical reports, foundation designs, and performstructural analysis of substation and transmission related structures. Individual will have a thorough knowledge andunderstanding of ANSI, ASTM, NESC, ASCE, and IEEE codes and standards necessaryto design substations and transmission lines. He/she will provide technical leadership and guidance to direct the designteam; and will have the ability to effectively execute multiple projectsranging from small "quick-hitter" projects to large complex projects. He/shewill be responsible for organizing design activities, quality of the designfrom the project team, monitor/maintain project schedules, report changes thataffect the schedule and budget, identify risks that may affect schedule and/orcosts, and present opportunities to improve the design and construction of substationsand transmission line projects. He/she will be accountable for building clientrelationships and will assist with business development with proposal supportand estimates for future work.
Responsibilities:•Provide leadership, training, and mentoring to develop the competence ofcivil/structural engineers.•Plan, design and oversee the civil/structural design of above and belowgrade of substation and transmission lines including site grading, drainage andearthwork, topographic and boundary surveys, geotechnical investigations,design of substation and transmission structures including poles, towers,buildings, retaining walls, and temporary structures.•Knowledge and understanding of concrete and steel design, structuralanalysis as related to substation and transmission line components.•Promote and perform quality reviews of design in accordance with MEIQuality Management System to ensure compliance NESC, GO95 (CA), ASCE, ACI,ANSI, AISC, IEEE client design standards, safety requirements, and goodindustry practices.•Develop technical specifications, prepare bid documents, and assistclients with bid and evaluation processes, including structure procurement andconstruction services.•Prepare and oversee preparation of civil/structural design documents forconstruction.•Demonstrate the meaning of "responsible charge" as defined byprofessional engineering ethics.•Demonstrate ability to work with limited supervision and guidance tomeet project commitments.•Build and maintain client relationships, and support businessdevelopment with proposals, schedules and estimates.
Qualifications:•This position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering with anemphasis on structural design from an ABET-accredited engineering program.•Professional Engineering License in US and can gain reciprocity within 6months after hire in Texas or other states as needed.•5 plus years relevant experience as a Civil/Structural Power Delivery inconsulting or utility environment.•3 plus years as Project Engineer responsible for delivery design andconstruction packages.•Proficiency with MS Office Software, include WORD, EXCEL, PowerPoint,and Project.•Proficiency in engineering application software and other programs,including AutoCAD, Civil 3D, RISA 3D, or STAAD Pro is preferred.•Experience with PLS-CADD, PLSCADD Tower, PLS-POLE, PLSPOLE, CAISSON,SAG10, and ArcGIS a plus.•Demonstrate ability to understand and interpret geotechnical reports andextrapolate information needed for foundation design software including L-PILEand MFAD.•Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively with clients, management,and design team.•Excellent verbal and written skills.•Understand the principles of project management.
