Job Summary: The Associate Director of Shelter Services is a leadership role responsible for overseeing and managing the day-to-day operations of our domestic violence shelters. This role involves providing strategic direction, ensuring the safety and well-being of residents, and working collaboratively with staff, partner organizations, and stakeholders to create a secure and supportive environment for survivors of domestic violence and/or sexual assault.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Operational Leadership:
Provide strategic leadership and direction to the shelter program, ensuring the effective and efficient delivery of services to residents.
Resident Support:
Oversee and ensure the provision of comprehensive support services for residents, including case management, counseling, and advocacy.
Crisis Response:
Be available for on-call and emergency situations, providing guidance and support during crisis incidents.
Team Management:
Supervise, train, and motivate shelter staff, including case managers, counselors, and support personnel. Maintain schedules and provide on-call support as needed.
Professional Development:
Facilitate ongoing training and professional development for staff members to ensure they are well-equipped to serve residents.
Collaboration:
Develop and maintain strong working relationships with partner organizations, government agencies, and community stakeholders to coordinate resources and support for residents.
Public Awareness:
Participate in community outreach and education efforts to raise awareness about domestic violence and the shelter’s services.
Safety and Security:
Ensure the safety and security of residents and staff within the shelter, implementing safety protocols and measures.
Facility Management:
Collaborate with Facilities team and maintenance, ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for residents.
Resource Management:
Manage shelter resources, including budgeting, fundraising, and grant applications, to support program sustainability.
Compliance:
Ensure that the shelter operates in compliance with all relevant regulations and standards, including those related to client confidentiality and safety.
Data Collection:
Oversee data collection and reporting to measure program effectiveness and impact.
Advocacy:
Act as an advocate for domestic violence survivors at the local, state, and national levels, promoting policies and initiatives that support their well-being.
Policy Development:
Contribute to the development and implementation of organizational policies and procedures related to domestic violence services.
Qualifications
Education:
A minimum of an Associate’s Degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or a related field is preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of three years of experience in a leadership role in a domestic violence shelter or related social services organization.
Skills and Abilities:
Strong leadership and management skills.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Knowledge of trauma-informed care and domestic violence issues.
Ability to work effectively in crisis situations.
Proficiency in budgeting and resource management.
Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Bi-lingual ability in English/Spanish a plus.
