I. JOB OVERVIEWEstablished in 1865, the George Washington University Law School is the oldest law school in the nation's capital and one of the most prestigious law schools in the country. GW Law is accredited by the American Bar Association and is a charter member of the Association of American Law Schools. GW Law is situated in the tree-laden downtown Washington, DC neighborhood familiarly known as Foggy Bottom.GW Law's Center for Law and Technology (GWCLT) oversees and coordinates two of the law school's preeminent programs: (i) Intellectual Property Law (IP), and (ii) Privacy and Technology Law (PT). GWCLT currently serves J.D., LL.M., S.J.D., and M.S.L. students in the area of IP Law, and J.D. students in the area of PT Law. The IP and PT programs are individually managed but form the GWCLT together.The PT program combined full-time and adjunct faculty teach over 20 courses in privacy and technology law each academic year. These courses include foundational courses such as Information Privacy Law, Cybersecurity Law and Policy, Internet Law, and Artificial Intelligence Law to a wide array of advanced courses and seminars on specialized topics including Consumer Protection Law, Computer Crime, Blockchain Law, and Global Privacy. Our full-time faculty have published extensive scholarship in the area of Privacy and Technology Law.The Privacy and Technology Law Program enjoys a strong relationship with other law schools, Associations, federal agencies, law firms, corporations, and other professional organizations/communities engaged in privacy and technology law. The PT Program sponsors and supports two student-managed law journals, The George Washington University Journal for Law and Technology (JOLT) and the Federal Communications Law Journal (FCLJ). Many of GW Law's J.D. and LL.M. students come to GW Law from across the United States as well as from distant countries.The GWCLT, including the PT program, produces a broad range of conferences, lectures, and scholarship in the area of privacy and technology law and related topics.The Assistant Dean for Privacy and Technology Law's duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:Educate students in the field of privacy and technology law and support those seeking careers in the field:Maintain appropriate curricular offerings considering faculty guidance, sound pedagogical principles, student interests, and employment trends.Identify, recommend for hire, and support adjunct faculty as needed to meet curricular goals.Provide academic and career advising to students, both one-on-one and by making available timely and accessible information about course offerings and academic and career development.Administer the Recognition of a JD Concentration in Privacy, Data Security, and Technology Law.Establish two new graduate level programs in privacy and technology law.Supervise students' independent legal writing projects.Assist in identifying and/or creating new internship opportunities for current students.Assist students in gaining full-time employment after law school.As appropriate, pair students with alumni in the privacy and technology field for informational meetings, mock interviews, or other mentoring.Potentially teach a course on Privacy and Technology Law each year.Serve as the primary point of contact and administrator of the Privacy and Technology Law Program:Establish a Privacy and Technology Law Advisory Council (PTAC).Work with appointed alumni leaders and Alumni Relations Staff to organize events.Coordinate alumni leaders as needed.Organize and market Privacy and Technology Law events to elevate GW's academic reputation.Administer the GW Center for Law and Technology (GWCLT).Publicize the GWCLT program and the work of Privacy and Technology Law faculty and students.Help to build, maintain, and support new initiatives related to Privacy and Technology Law.Work with the Law School Dean's office, Development Office, GWCLT faculty, and alumni to enhance fund-raising.Create opportunities to promote and showcase the scholarly work of the GWCLT faculty and students.Organize and support conferences, symposia, and other scholarly, professional, and public-facing projects and events.Support the GWCLT related student journals and law student associations.Develop a new recruitment plan for the LLM and MSL in Privacy and Technology Law.Perform related administrative and program support work:Assist the Associate Dean for IP Law in managing GWCLT's budget.Monitor and adjust the program's policies and procedures as needed.Work closely with the Development and Alumni Relations Office.Attend bar, organizational, and public meetings for exposure and recognition.Cultivate and implement efforts designed to enhance non-J.D. tuition revenue sources.Serve as liaison and principal contact for students, prospective students, visiting scholars, and other visitors.Perform additional related duties as assigned by the Dean or the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.II.
