A Day in the Life of a Planning Intern at Toole Design

As an Intern, you will not be fetching coffee or sorting mail - we want you here for real, meaningful work. You'll spend 8 to 12 weeks working with planners, engineers, and landscape architects on a variety of projects. All internships are paid positions.

Your work may include reviewing and documenting existing conditions, drafting content for memos or plans, supporting community engagement, analyzing survey data for a community safety or transportation plan, creating surveys and maps, or preparing materials for meetings. Toole Design is a truly inter-disciplinary firm, so our planners, landscape architects, urban designers and engineers work side-by-side to ensure that our projects are safe for all users, easily constructible, and fit in the community context.

We'll offer you the opportunity to work on a wide range of project types and work products, company-wide trainings on core skills and best practices, and career mentorship from the best in the business. You'll get the opportunity to attend key project meetings and site visits; grow your skills and use analysis/mapping programs like ArcMap and QGIS. Work Schedule for a Planning Intern at Toole Design:

This position typically works a flexible schedule of 40 hours a week for 8-12 weeks. The position is primarily in office, with the option to work from home 1 day per week.

About our Minneapolis office:

Toole Design's Minneapolis office is conveniently located downtown at 212 3rd Avenue N, near to the Mississippi River and Cedar Lake bike trail systems and walking distance from Metro Blue, Green, Orange, and C line Stations. The office is easily accessed on foot, by bicycle, and via transit.

Located in the North Loop neighborhood in the historic Colonial Warehouse building, the office is inside the former headquarters of the city's streetcar company. Our windows overlook the Cedar Lake Trail which most of our staff use to bike to work each day, sometimes with a canine in tow (our building is dog-friendly). You will also find Minneapolis staff conducting "walking meetings" to the nearby Mississippi River, taking transit nearly anywhere in the region, or hopping on bike share to attend meetings. Qualifications of a Planning Intern at Toole Design:

Undergraduate: Current enrollment as a third year or higher

Urban Planning, Geography/UP, Regional Planning, Sustainable Design, Sustainability, Transportation Planning, Social Sciences

or related program fieldGraduate: Current or upcoming enrollment in a

Master's in Urban & Regional Planning (MURP), City & Regional Planning (MCRP), Transportation Planning

or related program fieldRecent graduate: Degree in a related field or demonstrated passion for the fieldHigh school graduate with strong writing skillsAbility to quickly pick up new concepts, skills, and programsProficiency in Microsoft Office suiteExperience in an office environment a plusYou'll be great here if:
