Under the leadership of the Assistant Vice President of Enrollment Management, the Director of Student Financial Services will be responsible for the accurate and ethical day-to-day management of all financial aid related transactions at Samford University. These areas of responsibility include but may not be limited to Samford funded financial assistance programs, Federal Title IV financial assistance programs, State of Alabama financial assistance programs, NCAA and SOCON regulated financial assistance programs, and US Department of Veterans Affairs financial assistance programs. This role is held by the chief financial aid officer.Job Duties
Embody and reflect the mission, vision, and values of Samford University.Provide vision, leadership, and management of staff and operations in the Student Financial Services Department.Manage all aspects of the day-to-day operation of Student Financial Services.In consultation with division leadership, plan and establish department priorities and work with direct reports to determine work assignments and schedules to meet department needs most effectively.Serve as chief financial aid officer for the university and compliance authority for all areas within Student Financial Services.In tandem with Enrollment Management Operations staff and Technology Services staff oversee and manage the use and implementation of all data systems employed by Student Financial Services including but not limited to: Banner, TouchNet, Slate, BDMS, and Dynamic Forms.Collaborate with key partners in offices across campus including Enrollment Management, Decision Support and Financial Strategy, the Controller's Office, the Registrar's Office, Technology Services, Athletics, Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Residence Life, Health Services, SamfordGLOBAL, Campus Police, Parent and Family Engagement, Legacy League and other entities across campus to ensure accuracy of student financial assistance.Ensure the accurate awarding, distribution, and reporting of all Samford funded financial assistance programs, Federal Title IV financial assistance programs, State of Alabama financial assistance programs, NCAA and SOCON regulated financial assistance programs, US Department of Defense financial assistance programs, US Department of Veterans Affairs financial assistance programs, and Samford managed loan programs such as NFLP, CIOS, COHRON and others.Remain abreast of software upgrades and assist with testing new releases for any systems employed in Student Financial Services.Research, assess, and implement new concepts, ideas, and technologies that would enhance customer service and effectiveness within Student Financial Services.Identify inefficiencies to promote operational excellence and implement process/service improvements for all constituents.Ensure the security and confidentiality of all student record information and submitted documentation to comply with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Title IV regulations, VA regulations, and other related areas.Collaborate with Enrollment Management leadership to establish awarding strategies to meet university enrollment and financial goals.Oversee the creation and maintenance of documents such as catalog, policies and procedures, the financial policy, student handbook, and other internal publications.Review policies and procedures in collaboration with direct reports to ensure compliance with all federal, state, institutional and other applicable regulations and industry best practices to avoid financial and reputational damages to the university.Responsible for maintaining high level of familiarity with and understanding of regulations regarding awarding of all sources of financial aid.Hire, train, supervise, coach, counsel, motivate, and evaluate Student Financial Services employees.Create and implement a detailed, annual training program to keep staff up to date on new regulations and changes in policy and procedures.Serve on committees and task forces as a representative of Student Financial Services and Enrollment Management.Assist direct reports with staff evaluations and direct the hiring process for Student Financial Services team members.Additional duties as assigned.Qualifications
Bachelor's degreeMinimum ten (10) years of professional experience and accomplishment in progressive positions in financial aid administration at a college or university (or related field), with at least five (5) years of supervisory experiencePreferred Qualifications
Master's degreeFive (5) years or more of extensive experience working with Banner in either the financial aid module or the student module.
