Purchasing Specialist

POSITION PURPOSE:This position is responsible for coordinating and executing purchasing and inventory planning functions for Activar's Plastics Products Group.PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:• Prepare and issue purchase orders and change notices.• Maintain current documentation regarding purchasing systems and procedures.• Oversee all buyer codes with the exception of sheet and rod, making sure to purchase items as needed to maintain inventory.• Monitor inventory of safety stock levels in conjunction with dollar values to maintain proper inventory levels. Ensure that APPG is staying within min/max levels with an eye on the overall inventory cost.• Verify all transfer setups by branch personnel. Research and make recommendations regarding more efficient ways to obtain materials.• Maintain sales backlog and customer delivery tracking and inform Customer Service and/or Sales of any potential changes that could impact the customer.• Maintain accurate system pricing for distribution part numbers.• Create and distribute production planning reports regularly, including material arrival reports and shortage lists.• Analyze market and delivery conditions to determine present and future material availability and pricing.• Perform material requirements planning functions in the ERP system.• Examine overstock and obsolete materials and determine their disposition.• Cooperate with other departments to resolve purchase, customer related, or invoice problems.• Assist in raw material expedites.• Perform special projects and other duties as assigned by management.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:• Strong analytical and problem solving abilities.• Effective communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.• Demonstrated project management skills.• Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and the capacity to learn new systems.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:Required:• High School diploma or general education degree (GED).• 3 plus years of relevant experience.
Preferred:• Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.• Manufacturing industry experience.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
