The Office of the Kansas Attorney Genera l (OAG) is seeking applications to fill a

Trial Assistant

position in the Major Crimes unit of the Criminal Division to perform paraprofessional legal and clerical work, where working a team environment with a positive attitude and willingness to assist others, is critical. We seek to hire individuals who exemplify the highest standards of integrity, efficiency and professionalism. This position requires excellent organizational skills.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

If selected, you would support our mission to better protect the safety and security of Kansans by assisting our attorneys through the performance of the following duties. Most cases include homicides, off-grid child sex crimes, and felony crimes involving public officials.

Assist in drafting, proofreading and filing legal documents in connection with criminal proceedings in state courtsArrange travel and prepare travel vouchers for prosecutors and/or witnessesMaintain calendar with activities of each assigned caseCoordinate and conduct witness support activities that include preparing subpoenas and scheduling witnesses for motion and trial preparationCoordinate with Victim/Witness Specialist to notify victims or their family members concerning court activitiesAssist attorneys in preparation and execution of trial-related litigation, including distributing discovery, coordinating sequence of witnesses, preparing trial notebooks (exhibit list, etc.) and obtaining prepared demonstrative exhibitsAssist attorney during trial with coordination, which may include some travelMaintain and update our electronic document management system (LawBase) and scan documents for electronic storageManage case documents within case management system (iManage)Process incoming and outgoing mail, answer incoming calls and respond to emails in a timely mannerAssist other trial assistants and attorneys as neededAdditional duties and responsibilities may be added to the position at any time. TRAVEL:

You would travel to locations required to competently and diligently discharge the assigned duties. Frequent in-state travel is required. A valid driver's license is required when operating a state vehicle, a private vehicle, or a rental vehicle for the benefit of the State.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A minimum of two (2) years of experience as a trial assistant, legal assistant, or paralegal in a legal office setting with a preference for criminal law experience.Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Pro.Exceptional organizational and communication skills.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Four (4) years of experience as a trial assistant, legal assistant, or paralegal in a legal office setting.Experience working in a customer service-oriented environment.Experience working with an electronic document management/case management system.Electronic discovery experience.Experience with electronic filing, including eFlex.Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements
