The Assistant Director of Human Resources (HR) will play a pivotal role in supporting the organization's employee relations and compliance initiatives. This position will work closely with the Deputy Director of HR and the HR team to ensure adherence to employment laws and regulations, while fostering a positive and inclusive work environment. The position assists the Deputy with oversight of the policies, procedures, and programs related to Employee Relations to include the development and improvement of programs to support overall employee performance, morale, and satisfaction. This position maintains the highest level of integrity, confidentiality, and a commitment to creating an environment in which employees can perform and thrive.

This role does offer flexibility in scheduling. Under a biweekly payroll the schedule has base hours of 70 in the two week period.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Employee Relations:

Contribute to the development and implementation of effective employee relations strategies.

Assist in managing employee inquiries, concerns, and complaints.

Provide guidance and mentorship to HR Generalists on employee relations matters.

Provide guidance to all staff on company policies, procedures, and benefits.

Conduct investigations into workplace incidents, complaints, and grievances.

Provide guidance and assist with the development and delivery of appropriate performance feedback or action plans including corrective/disciplinary actions.

Counsel employees on concerns related to the applicable Equal Employment Opportunity laws including Title VII, the American with Disabilities Act, Age Discrimination in Employment Act and other federal and state laws.

Contribute to the development and implementation of employee engagement programs.

Compliance:

Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, including but not limited to FMLA, ADA, and OSHA.

Maintain employee records and documentation in accordance with legal requirements.

Stay updated on changes in employment legislation and regulations and share knowledge and experiences with the HR Team.

Personnel Policy and Procedures:

Assist in development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures.

Recommend updates to and implement relevant changes to Employee Handbook.

Maintain internal Standard Operating Procedures for HR team processes.

General:

Serve as HR Generalist for caseload of programs as assigned.

Collaborate with other departments to ensure HR initiatives support the organization's success.

Serve as Human Resources representative and Chair of the Safety Committee. Provide support and guidance to Human Resources Generalists and their chairing of committees including the Staff Appreciation and Wellness Committees.

Assist with the preparation and analysis of employment-related reports or collected data (ex. Exit interview, Survey data, etc.).

Provide support and strategies to the functions of recruitment as needed. Interview and assess applicants for any position in the agency.

Review Criminal Background Check agency roster to maintain compliance with OPWDD.

Maintain current status as “Authorized Party” for all required processes and procedures.

Perform special projects and other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.

At least 3 years of human resource management experience required, preferably with a focus on employee relations and compliance.

PHR or SHRM-CP certification a plus.

Valid NYS Driver's License

Salary Description

$70-72k
