This Program Specialist will manage the business functions and program coordination of the Taskar Center for Accessible Technology (TCAT). The center is housed in the Paul G Allen School of Computer Science and Engineering, within the College of Engineering. TCAT develops, translates and deploys open source universally accessible technologies, with a focus on benefitting populations with motor limitations or speech impairment.
This position is responsible for the daily functioning of the TCAT, project oversight of grants (including USDOT Complete Trips award), contracts, gifts and other funding, proposal submission and support, procurement, billing, reporting and partner/industry relations.
The position is listed at temporary 50% FTE, but has some flexibility on FTE depending on successful candidate’s preference and evolving TCAT needs.
This position is responsible for supporting, monitoring, and closing a range of gifts, contracts and grants from a range of research sponsors and partners, each of which has its own rules and regulations for working with research universities. The individual in this position must be able to work effectively with a wide variety of people across multiple university departments, units and sponsor agencies. The ideal candidate for this position needs to be able to juggle competing deadlines while working with stakeholders representing various research partners, project sponsors and UW offices, all while ensuring that all applicable rules and regulations are carefully followed. Consequently, the position requires the ability to think both critically and creatively, while demonstrating excellent technical, decision making, team building, and communication skills.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Center Operation & Fiscal Management: • Manage and oversee daily operations of the TCAT, including fiscal management across all funding streams, staffing allocations/HR activities, office administration, and procurement/reimbursements. • Ensure center conforms to department, college, and university policies and regulations.
Project Oversight: • Monitor budgets for all TCAT projects, including the ongoing USDOT Complete Trips project. • Forecast, monitor, maintain, initiate, and/or approve expenditures on TCAT budgets, with delegated authority from TCAT Director and center researchers. • Prepare various analysis and reports, including cost-share reports.
Proposal Budget Development and Grant/Contract Management: • Prepare budgets for proposals TCAT Director. • Coordinate project staffing and HR needs with TCAT Director and work with CSE HR to manage student and staff positions and payroll allocations • Coordinate with CSE Grants team for proposal submissions and pre-award compliance. • Provide coordination and oversight of post-award activities and provide frequent reports to TCAT Director on award spending. Requires independent judgement and decision making, in order to comply with complex nature of contract and proposal management.
Sponsor Relations : • Assist in establishing new contracts and grants with external research sponsors.
Other Tasks as Assigned: • Proactively advise TCAT Director regarding Center funding, along with policies, procedures, and activities, and select/recommend independent courses of action • Support proposal development, along with occasional TCAT events.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor's Degree in Business, Economics, or related field, and two years of related experience.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience with Workday Software • Experience with navigating UW finance system
