Earthwork Estimator

POSITION SUMMARY
This position is accountable for conducting detailed assessments of potential construction sites
including, but not limited to, analyzing soil quality, topography, and other geotechnical factors to determine suitability for construction projects. This role involves working closely with project managers, engineers and architects to provide accurate cost and time estimates for site preparation, utilities, and foundation work. This position is office based with travel to job sites for estimating purposes.
The incumbent must have the ability and flexibility to work different shifts and long hours (8-12 hours). Weekend work and extra hours occur according to production needs and at the discretion of the Estimating Manager.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conducts thorough site inspections to assess soil conditions, drainage, topography and other relevant factors.
- Identifies potential challenges and risks associated with the site, such as soil instability, flood risk or environmental concerns.
- Provides detailed estimates of time and cost for site preparation, including excavation, utilities, grading and foundation work.
- Applies technical skills with minimal guidance from others and often works independently.
- Compiles comprehensive reports outlining site conditions, analysis findings and recommendations for construction feasibility, ensuring all site assessments and recommendations comply with local building codes and environmental regulations.
- Exhibits the ability to effectively work closely with Estimating and Project Management Teams to help ensure success in the bid estimation process for concrete construction projects.
- Utilizes advanced software and technologies for site mapping, analysis and estimation.
- Demonstrates ability to develop and maintain estimating procedures and guidelines.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
A Minimum of (5) years field and/or estimating experience in structural and light commercial concrete construction, or equivalent work experience required. BS Degree in Civil Engineering, Geology, Construction Management or related discipline. Field experience preferred. This position requires office and field work. Exposure to various weather conditions and physical demands.
In addition, the incumbent must have:
- Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office, ICE, OST,MS Project and InEight.
- Ability to perform in high-stress situations and meet tight deadlines.
- Problem solving and critical thinking skills for project efficiency.
- Ability to understand scope requirements based on project documents and customer communication.
- Time management and organizational skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently under minimal supervision.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
The incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.
The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes hard hat, safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done.
This individual must also have the ability to identify critical issues and formulate action plans with all levels of management, including corporate and executive.
The incumbent must possess the ability to remain calm during emergencies and respond appropriately as dictated by the circumstance of the incident and as directed by the Safety Representative or other management personnel. Must be capable of evacuating the work area in a timely manner should an emergency situation arise.
