To help facilitate our expanding business, RMS Energy is currently seeking a Senior P&C Technician to join our dynamic and fast-growing team. Our Senior P&C Technicians oversee the performance testing and routine maintenance on transmission/distribution power equipment, relaying (electromechanical, solid state and micro-processor), pilot channel equipment (power line carrier, pilot wire, transfer, transfer trip, fiber optic, CVTs, line tuners, line traps, etc.), and controls and communications equipment.

Preferred Locations: Ohio (Dayton) and Indiana (Indianapolis), or nearby locations.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform a variety of testing on the protection and control relays, including reading and verifying voltage and current inputs, verifying local and SCADA metering, relay calibration, trip testing, and verifying all alarms (local and SCADA and function switches.
  • Perform routine troubleshooting and repair of substation relaying and control equipment. Commission new substations, power equipment, relaying (electro-mechanical, solid state and microprocessor), pilot channel equipment (power line carrier, pilot wire, transfer, transfer trip, fiber optic, CVTs, line tuners, line traps, etc.), controls and communications equipment.
  • Plan, schedule, and complete test activities efficiently, on time, without service interruptions and according to client and company safety procedures and standards.
  • Provide support to appropriate field service personnel.
  • Learn and apply test procedure for various types of substation equipment.
  • Communicate effectively with diverse groups.
  • Reference and complete assignments as described in applicable specifications.
  • Perform regular field work indoors and outdoors.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED; associate degree in electrical engineering technology preferred.
  • Previous experience in commissioning, panel and equipment checkout, relay calibration, testing and repairing substation relaying and control schemes.
  • Previous experience in substation design (including P&C engineering); substation construction; substation commissioning; SCADA/Fault.
  • Data/SER/Integration-Automation equipment installation and testing is highly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of three-phase power systems; power system protection & control schemes; test equipment; test equipment software.
  • Working knowledge of test equipment and toll/wiring knowledge.
  • Strong skills in the interpretation of wiring and elementary diagrams.
  • Exceptional ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proven ability to work and prioritize multiple projects with competing deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook).

Other Requirements:

  • Primary office location is based on job location.
  • Up to 50% travel required, with flexibility for overtime, extended hours, and occasional work on nights, weekends, and holidays. Availability for increased travel and hours may be necessary during peak seasons.

Working Conditions:

This job requires the ability to respond to 24/7 call outs and to work extended hours, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed. Work may be conducted outdoors in all weather conditions, near low-, medium-, and high-voltage equipment and heavy machinery, in areas with elevations in excess of 100 feet, and confined spaces adhering to strict safety protocols. Exposure to loud noises from machinery is common, necessitating the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). This job involves risk of electrical shock. This job requires frequent travel between RMS facilities and customer sites.

Physical Requirements:

The position demands physical mobility to navigate uneven surfaces, the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly, fine motor skills for handling small components and tools, and the capability to climb ladders and work at heights. Sustained physical effort, including standing, bending, pushing, digging, pulling, kneeling, crawling and reaching for extended periods, is required. Good vision, including color vision and depth perception, and the ability to hear alarms and communications in noisy environments are essential. Additionally, proficiency in speaking, hearing, reading, and typing in English is required for effective communication and documentation.
