Key Responsibilities:
Do you enjoy hands on engineering work that places you in a hangar environment working near airplanes, then this position could be for you!
- You will be a part of a team that will provide 24x7x365 engineering technical support for United Airlines worldwide fleet of operational aircraft to ensure timely return to service
- This position offers flexibility in terms of shifts, including days, swings, or midnight shift. You will have the chance to work a non-standard schedule, which will improve your time off and give you more opportunities to enjoy your travel benefits!
Are you someone who loves to problem tackle and collaborate with technicians and other coworkers to creatively resolve aircraft on the ground situations?
- You will fix and find solutions, perform repairs and modifications on aircraft structures, interiors, flight controls, systems, and avionics.
- Provide engineering assistance to maintenance consisting of technical data research, process development, and procedure clarification and direction vital to maintain continued airworthiness of the aircraft
- Responsible for investigation, root cause analysis and development of corrective action plan for chronic aircraft issues as they pertain to aircraft systems
- Develop substantiating data for aircraft equipment design/repairs through knowledge of aircraft operational characteristics, materials, and processes
- Includes performing technical engineering substantiations through sophisticated engineering analysis by hand and computer software programs
- Authors and continually evaluate/improve UAL engineering processes and procedures
Nighttime is when the hangars are full of airplanes; you will be engaged in all types of maintenance an engineering activities and repair questions.
- Investigate maintenance problems during line and overnight maintenance and initiate corrective actions to return aircraft to service in a timely manner
- Collaborate and work with both internal and external customers to address technical issues, provide work scope recommendations, and investigate failures.
- Coordinate work with other operational groups to ensure airworthiness, safety, regulatory compliance, operational reliability, and operational efficiency
- Collaborate with industry, regulatory, and/or governmental agencies to establish policies and procedures as required
This position is located at ORD (Chicago) and EWR(Newark).
Shifts are dependent on work location and assignment and will be designated during the interview process as required. It is important to note that shifts may change based on the needs of the operation.
Depending on location or assignment your schedule may look like:
- Night shift (5:00pm to 4:30am), Wed-Tues, 7 days on/7 days off
- Night shift (7:00pm to 6:30am), Wed-Tues, 7 days on/7 days off,
- Day shift (6:30am to 6:00pm), Thurs-Sat w/ alternating Wednesdays
- Night shift (7:30pm to 7:00am), Wed-Tues, 7 days on/7 days off

Qualifications - External
What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):
B.S. A Degree in Engineering (Aerospace/Mechanical) or relevant work experience of an equal level will be considered for this position.
- Minimum of 3-8 years of engineering experience or similar role elsewhere in the industry.
- Successful candidate will have working knowledge of airline or OEM operations.
- Knowledge of Code of Regulations (CFRs) airworthiness design and substantiation criteria, aircraft and equipment design and operational characteristics.
- Knowledge of aircraft structures and/or systems for Boeing/Airbus aircraft.
- Ability to interpret sophisticated and technical Engineering and OEM documents.
- Highly detailed project development and management for regulatory compliance modifications, and overall ownership of specific systems.
- Partnership, project management, excellent communication, and analytical skills.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship.
- Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification.
- Reliable, punctual attendance is a crucial function of the position.
What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):
- OEM Structural Repairs for Engineers Training (Boeing/Airbus) with portfolio of designing major repairs for aircraft structures; metallic or composite.
- Engineering work within specific ATA Airline Chapters.
- Airline or Proven experience with general ATA Chapters which could encompass, aircraft systems, structures, power plant and avionics fields.
- Excellent communication and technical writing ability.
- Knowledge of 14CFR (specifically parts 21, 25, 26, 43, 121, & 145).
- CATIA/AUTOCAD experience.
