SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS:
- The Start-up Engineer is a member of a team of electric and controls professionals, responsible for start-up, launch, and troubleshooting / maintaining Schuler industrial control systems. This role includes about 80% field work and travel and places a heavy emphasis on startup and maintaining of industrial press and automation controls. These projects are mission-critical and require a strong commitment to on-time delivery. Idle time between field projects will be utilized to work on in-house engineering projects participate in training programs and support the remote service group. Service and supporting roles, as outlined below, are also an integral part of this position.
- This position will also require extended training periods at Schuler facilities worldwide.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- On-site contact person for our customers and project managers
- Onsite implementation and start-up of control systems. These activities can take
- several months and are performed at our customers’ locations throughout North America
- Troubleshooting, detailed failure analysis and adjustment of the controls system
- Equipment optimization in cooperation with the design department
- Press inspections and re-commissioning
- Assessment of material required for repairs and maintenance
- Update of technical documentation while onsite to reflect the actual state of the installation (as built drawings).
- Production assistance incl. customer training
- Support the Field Service Group in preparation of installations and software updates
- Provide troubleshooting assistance to Schuler field service technicians and engineers
- Troubleshoot customers problems remotely and onsite
- Participate in on-call service program
- Visit customers on occasional sales or project meetings
- Support Customer Service Representatives in spare parts order processing by providing technical information
- Prepare and facilitate technical training programs for internal and external customers
- Interface with the customer as needed to resolve issues and technical concerns.
- Supports new machine sales with technical information when requested
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
- A minimum of two years of experience in designing and/or maintaining of industrial control systems, preferably in the field of press automation systems.
- PC based control systems
- Allen Bradley RS Logix 5, 500, and 5000, FactoryTalk-View
- Siemens S7, S7F, TIA-Portal
- Experience with Motion Control
- Experience with industrial networking such as PROFIBUS, PROFINET and EtherNet/IP.
- Experience with industrial robot systems
- ACAD Electrical
- Ability to travel, nationally and abroad.
- Ability to stay on installation sides for multiple months at the time
- Proficient user of Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint) & SAP preferred
- Possess strong analytical aptitude

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
This position reports to the Lead Electrical Engineer. Coordinates related activities with service engineering, field service, project management and customers. There are no supervisory responsibilities assigned to this position.
