Operations and Maintenance Engineer

Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Battery Storage and Power Plant Electrical Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of battery operations, perform routine and non-routine maintenance, and ensure the safe and efficient operation of plant equipment. This role requires travel, the ability to work independently, and a commitment to safety and excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate and maintain battery storage and power plant equipment, including start-up, shutdown, and emergency procedures.
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on plant equipment.
- Conduct plant rounds, log equipment parameters, and make necessary adjustments.
- Coordinate with contractors and internal resources for support.
- Assist in ordering and receiving plant materials.
- Represent the company with vendors and regulators as needed.
- Schedule and coordinate work efforts, including work assignments and approving overtime.
- Develop site budgets and work plans.
- Continuously increase knowledge through independent study.
- Implement emergency and safety procedures.
- Basic knowledge and experience in PLC and SCADA programming and troubleshooting.
- Use test equipment, technical manuals, and schematics to troubleshoot systems.
- Travel overnight approximately 25% of the time.
- Climb ladders and work on elevated platforms and in confined spaces.
- Maintain trend reports and complete various plant reports.
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Preferred: Electrical Engineering Degree
- High school diploma with at least two years of technical training in operations and maintenance of battery storage or power plants.
- Four years of experience in a power plant or similar environment.
- Thorough knowledge of operating and maintaining mechanical and electrical systems.
- Familiarity with internetworking protocols and remote communication for telemetry.
- Knowledge of PLC-based instrumentation and control systems.
- Preferred experience with power electronics in a utility environment.
- Proficient in using hand tools, power tools, and test equipment.
- Strong understanding of plant hazards and safety requirements.
- Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Valid state driver’s license.
- Ability to make effective decisions and solve problems.
- Attention to detail and ability to balance competing priorities.
- Familiarity with standard power plant PPE and its proper use.
- Available for off-shift call-ins and travel to other company sites.
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and work in harsh weather conditions.
- Ability to work at a computer for long periods and stay alert.
