McDowell Hetherington LLP, a commercial litigation firm of over 65 attorneys with a nationwide practice, is seeking candidates for a Docket Specialist in its Houston office. McDowell Hetherington LLP offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience.

Position Summary:

The Docket Specialist position provides administrative assistance and primary support for a high-volume docket. Professionalism, confidentiality, and a commitment to customer service are essential in this role.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • At least three (3) years of experience in managing a high-volume litigation docket.
  • Stable tenure with previous employers.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office experience. In particular, proficiency in Word and Excel are a must.
  • Substantial experience working with electronic court filings in Texas state courts.
  • Outstanding verbal and communication skills, including client communication experience.
  • Experience with Netdocs or a similar document management system.
  • Basic proficiency in real estate or property litigation, including ability to navigate property records and county clerk resources.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Prepare and format legal and/or administrative correspondence and documents for assigned attorneys.
  • Manage and maintain both physical and electronic case files for assigned attorneys.
  • Communicate with Court, opposing counsel, and clients as needed.
  • Calendar all relevant dates for all attorneys assigned to matters on which Docket Specialist is assisting.
  • Responsible for filing legal documents electronically or manually as required.
  • Ensure that assigned attorneys receive all documents, correspondence, alerts, mailings, scheduling materials, orders, and any other information pertaining to their assigned cases upon receipt.
  • Assist with any administrative support/functions assigned attorneys may undertake for special projects and/or events.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate and exchange information so others will understand. This position requires prolonged periods working in a stationary position at a desk and on a computer. This position requires the ability to move about the office, use office machinery and occasionally move files up to 15 pounds.

Expected Work Hours

Usual and customary days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, between 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., but may vary depending on business needs and requirements of this professional role.

No travel is expected in this position.
