About the role
Criterion is seeking a Digital Video QC Technician to join our technical department and ensure our assets meet the highest standards throughout the post-production workflow. As a vital member of the quality control team, you'll help bring our exceptional film library to audiences worldwide. Your keen eye for detail and technical expertise will be instrumental in crafting pristine deliverables destined for physical media, streaming, and theatrical releases.
Your daily responsibilities will include evaluating incoming content against rigorous technical criteria, providing feedback to the production teams, and overseeing the generation of master files and proxies as projects progress through the pipeline. Beyond technical evaluation, you'll play a vital role in workflow enhancement. Your hands-on experience and insights will contribute directly to improving our technical processes, helping shape the department's continued evolution and efficiency.
About you
You are passionate about technical post-production workflows, with a proven track record in media quality control. You should be proficient in industry-standard video tools and demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and process improvement. We're particularly interested in candidates who are well-versed in modern QC tools and have experience with scripting and automated QC environments.
You possess an obsessive commitment to order, a detail-oriented mindset, and impeccable communication skills. You are constantly seeking improvements, but always prioritize stability and appreciate the importance of iterative changes. You strive to understand the purpose and function of existing systems before updating them. Responsibilities
- ? Evaluate content for technical quality standards
- ? Generate QC reports and coordinate resolution of quality issues
- ? Prepare and assemble master files
- ? Generate proxy files for various delivery requirements
- ? Manage communication channels and track file progress
- ? Document and maintain workflow procedures
Basic qualifications
- ? 2+ years of experience in digital video quality control workflows
- ? Proven attention to detail and systematic approach to quality control
- ? Extensive knowledge of industry video and audio codecs and file formats (DPX, TIFF, ProRes, H.264)
- ? Experience with multiple video resolutions from SD to 4K
- ? Proficiency in professional video software including DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Premiere, and Final Cut Pro
- ? Working knowledge of HDR workflows (Dolby Vision, HDR10) and color space standards
- ? Proficiency in evaluating digitized film elements, including generation identification, damage assessment, and aspect ratio verification
- ? Exceptional written, verbal, and organizational skills
- ? Strong appreciation for world cinema
Preferred Experience
- ? Demonstrated expertise in file-based media workflows
- ? Experience with Digital Cinema Package (DCP) validation and quality control processes
- ? Deploying and managing automated QC platforms such as Vidchecker, Colorfront QC, and QScan
- ? Experience processing interlaced video formats
- ? Scripting and automation experience (FFmpeg, DaVinci Resolve API, etc.)
- ? Technical support and troubleshooting
- ? Experience operating digital and analog VTRs
This is a permanent, full-time position with excellent benefits–including medical, dental, 401K matching, and a generous vacation policy. Base salary range is $60,000 - $80,000/year, commensurate with experience. The nature of the work will require you to be physically present in our New York, NY office.
