GENERAL DESCRIPTION
MEGI Engineering Inc. is a full-service engineering design and consulting firm located in Portland, OR serving the chemical, pulp and paper, industrial, and power markets. As an Electrical Drafter/Designer, the successful candidate will demonstrate the qualifications and responsibilities listed below.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work with the Electrical Engineer to create designs consistent with industry standard practices, client requirements and conformance to Codes & Standards
- Generates design and drawings including plans, sections, motor/VFD elementaries, single lines, conduit and cable schedules, block diagrams, details, and other drawings
- Performs load studies, and sizes electrical equipment such as MCC motor starter buckets, transformers, overcurrent protection
- Size and route raceway in 3D environments utilizing software tools
- Size wire/cable for ampacity, perform voltage drop calculations, raceway fill calculations
- Produce area classification drawings and details
- Produce ladder and simple power circuit diagrams
- Interacts with Clients to convey project design and identify scope changes
- Interacts with other departments and suppliers to obtain pertinent information
- Reviews project/discipline deliverables for compliance with industry accepted design principles, company standards and customer contract specifications
- Complete field investigations and measurements in support of designs.
- Provide field support when needed.
QUALIFICATIONS / QUALITIES
- 5+ years design experience
- 2-4 years’ experience in a related industry
- Associate Degree in a technical discipline a plus
- AutoCAD Certificate or minimum of 5 years proven AutoCAD experience
- Proficient with AutoCAD 2D and 3D, Auto/CAD Electrical.
- Experience or familiarity with Plant3D and Navisworks
- Proficient in standard drafting techniques and in field investigations and measurements
- Knowledge of relevant Codes, Standards, and Symbols: NFPA, ANSI, IEEE
- Ability to read and create ladder and functional type schematics
- Knowledge of Switchgear, MCC, transformers, panelboards, electric motors, VFDs
- Self-motivated and self-managed to learn about technology and improve processes
- Proficient with MS office
- TWIC card a plus
- Lighting design for industrial environments a plus
- Minimum 2-4 years’ experience in a related industry.
- Effective communication (verbal and written) and relationship skills with engineering group, customers, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Must pass drug test, physical, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy
- US Citizenship and Valid US Driver’s License
Typical duties will be performed in an office environment with occasional field trips to operating facilities or construction sites. This requires ability to sit for extended periods of time, computer data entry, normal hearing, the ability to stand, walk, reach, climb and balance, clear close and distance vision, depth perception and the ability to focus. Lifting 25 pounds may be required.
Salary and benefits negotiable based on level of experience and the agreed upon responsibilities.
