Electrical Design Engineer

Position Title: Electrical Design Engineer

Duration: Full-Time, Direct Hire

Compensation: $90k

Job Summary: A client in the Chattanooga area is seeking a Project Electrical Engineer with experience in large industrial machines and equipment. This individual will be responsible for interpreting customer specifications, performing various calculations including voltage drop calculations, reading P&ID, and designing control panels. The role involves heavy design and project management, including working with customers, overseeing projects from concept to completion, and occasional travel to customer sites to support parts and service technicians.

Primary Tasks:

• Read and interpret electrical diagrams.
• Design electrical schematics and panel layout drawings using AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical.
• Create electrical bills of materials using AutoCAD Electrical and Excel.
• Develop PID schematics.
• Program electronic controllers for pressure, temperature, radar devices, etc.
• Work with PLCs.
• Provide electrical technical support to parts and service technicians, and other company personnel.

Education and Experience Required:

• Associate’s Degree with 8+ years of experience or a Bachelor’s Degree (4-year) preferably in Engineering or Electrical Engineering with 5+ years of experience.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, and AutoCAD Electrical.

Technical Knowledge and Experience Needed:

• Familiarity with the National Electric Code NFPA 70.
• Experience in designing and troubleshooting 3-phase, 600-volt power systems.
• Designing and building control panels.
• Performing voltage drop calculations and sizing conductors.
• Sizing cable trays for conductors.
• Experience with Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) and soft starters.
• Ability to perform arc flash calculations.
