Synergis’ client, a leading services organization, has engaged us in a search for multiple Lead Low Voltage Technician who will be responsible primarily for Fiber termination, team lead and mentorship as well as troubleshooting, maintenance and installation Access Control Systems.
Fiber Optic Cable Technician | Background and Scope
- Onsite repair, troubleshooting, maintenance and installation of network connections & smart devices / low voltage systems
- Primary onsite POC for issues and Team Lead responsibilities
- Terminate, troubleshoot, tag, tone, Fiber and twisted pair (mainly Ethernet) and coax as a requirement (For coax, RG6, RG11, and 1/2” specific experience.)
- (80%) Installing low-voltage cabling and equipment according to building plans, blueprints, or other specifications
- (20%) Onsite repair, troubleshooting, maintenance and installation of network connections & smart devices (Access Control systems, Smart Devices, Digital Displays)
- An ability to “think on your feet” and adapt to changing technical and customer circumstances.
- Provide an EXEMPLARY level of support to clients during installation, maintenance and repair of equipment
- Relay field repetitive failures / quality issues to the team and management.
- Escalate issues for further support through the services team members
- Articulate troubleshooting actions, next step actions, recommendations and/or resolution prior to leaving client or before the end of day site where possible
- Fiber optic, Wireless, Coax, and ethernet cable testing and troubleshooting
Fiber Optic Cable Technician | Requirements
- Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent work experience
- 6+ years’ experience installing and maintaining low voltage cabling:
- Experience with Fiber and twisted pair (mainly Ethernet) and coax as a requirement
- 3+ years’ experience supporting one or more of the below:
- Security Systems (Crime Prevention Systems)
- Fire Alarm Systems
- Smart Devices
- Digital Displays
- Proficiency in cable prep and splice closure techniques, fiber splicing, testing & troubleshooting
- Previous experience working with an Audio-Visual services provider
- Experience with and understanding of networking concepts
- IP subnetting and the OSI model
- LAN / WAN / WLAN / SDWAN
- Routing protocols such as BGP, EIGRP, OSPF, IS-IS, RIP, etc.
- Knowledgeable of low voltage electrical concepts i.e., Ohms law
- Strong background in networking protocols related to IoT Devices
- Ability to (preferred):
- Understand access control/IP Camera Security systems.
- Install anything Smart Locks, Smart Thermostats, IP Cameras, Digital Displays and other related IoT devices.
- Troubleshoot and fix any problems that may arise during the installation process.
- Able to read and understand functional design drawings as well as cable riser diagrams and all architectural drawings
- Superior client relationship management is a requirement for this position (i.e. exhibiting the ability to create an atmosphere of tension relief during high stress encounters)
- Familiarity with a wide range of audio, video and networking equipment
Fiber Optic Cable Technician | Preferred
- Previous experience working with an Audio/Visual specific services company strongly preferred
Fiber Optic Cable Technician | Other:
- Travel: Varies between projects, but anywhere from 60% to 90%
- Auto travel primarily
- Overnight travel in some circumstances may be required
- Full time position with some work being performed after-hours / weekends
- Demonstrate a legal ability to work within the United States via I9 verification. Ability to work for any US based company without sponsorship now or anytime in the future

The hourly pay rate for this position is $26-28. Benefits available to full-time employees: medical, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, 401k and commuter benefits.
