$95,000 - 110,000 DOE

Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm, evenings and weekends as needed.

Primary Function of the Position

Under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), this position is primarily responsible for the organization's finance department and its functions which include, but are limited to financial reporting and review, maintenance of all accounting records, general accounting, cost accounting, general ledger, payroll, accounts payables, accounts receivables, and tax return preparation. This position also coordinates the annual audit with external auditors and is responsible for assisting the CFO with the preparation of budget forecasts.

Position Responsibilities

Organizational Leadership
  • Serve on the organization's leadership team, helping to execute multi-year business plans and strategies that advance HAP's priorities and intended impact.
  • Provide financial analysis and decision-making support to the CFO, the Leadership Team and Project Leads, and the Board Finance Committee.
  • Participate in all internal meetings regarding HAP's current and proposed program expansion, budget revisions, new funder kick off meetings and training plans with program leaders to meet financial projections.
  • Utilize technology and Financial Edge to optimize all reporting and analytical functions.
  • Ensure that HAP meets critical regulatory and legal compliance benchmarks with local and federal government grants and contracts.
  • Keep up with new trends in the financial industry by attending conferences, participating in professional development and sharing this information with the finance and leadership team.
  • Mentor and coach direct reports, delegating work streams effectively and holding team members to a high standard of excellence.

Financial Strategy and Management

  • Responsible for grants and contracts management, including designing program budgets for proposals and business plans, forecasting spending and providing decision support to program management, and ensuring compliance with donor and contractor requirements.

  • Ensure records systems are maintained and in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

  • Manage internal systems, controls, processes, and procedures to ensure the integrity, accuracy, compliance, and usefulness of financial information and reporting.

  • Oversee day-to-day finance and accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, fixed assets, prepaids, credit card expense reporting, payroll processing, monthly reconciliation, and monthly and year-end close.
  • Generate monthly, quarterly and annual reports as needed to monitor, evaluate and optimize cash-flow and liquidity.

Staff Development and Management
  • Build a top-tier internal finance team by actively recruiting, training and developing talented accountants, analysts, consultants, auditors, tax planners and payroll staff, as needed.
  • Hire, supervise and train staff in accordance with HAP protocols, including providing remedial training when needed.
  • Monitor and evaluate staff performance, providing coaching and mentoring when needed.
  • Other duties as assigned, and as needed, to further the goals of the organization and in alignment with HAP's mission.

  • Ability to travel to multiple service locations, if needed.

Education and Experience
  • MBA, graduate, or Bachelor's Degree in finance, accounting, or other relevant field (or equivalent employment and learning experience) .
  • Must have a minimum of five (5) years of experience in a senior-level accounting position.
  • Strong experience and knowledge in nonprofit accounting.
  • Successful experience managing a budget of at least $10M.
  • Experience with grants management and technology-enabled operations/accounting systems preferred.
  • Supervisory experience and a demonstrated ability to develop and lead others

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for sustained periods of time in an indoor setting
  • Ability to tolerate moderate noise levels (i.e. shared open office space with computers, phone, and printers, light traffic).
  • Must have the ability to move about the office to access files and office equipment.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation for occasional travel for meetings at other HAP office locations, events and offsite meetings.
  • Occasional moving or lifting of boxes or files up to 20 pounds.
  • Able to focus on data, analyze the information and draw conclusions.
  • Frequent interactions with coworkers and participants requiring ability to communicate effectively.
  • Frequent communication via email requiring ability to fluently read and write in English.
  • Frequent preparation and analysis of figures.
