This team will support the development and execution of multiyear, product-focused strategic business plans for new areas of growth, as well as sharing best practices with Sysco’s global merchandising teams.The VPMM of Center of Plate (CoP) role is accountable for delivery of the strategic and financial results of Sysco’s US-based business through management of our Center of Plate protein categories. The VPMM of CoP defines and executes upon category strategies to grow this important portion of our business, including defining assortment, identifying opportunities for innovation or Sysco Brand introductions, creating pricing strategies, defining the promotional calendar, managing placement of items within Sysco and our Specialty Meat companies, and owning our relationships with key protein suppliers.Our Purpose is to share food and deliver care to the world. Our products help the restaurant owners and chefs of America deliver culinary innovation for millions of America’s consumers every day.The VPMM of CoP is responsible for developing a team with the core capabilities as part of Sysco’s Merchandising team to support our Recipe for Growth. This leader’s team balances short-term and more transformational opportunities, works with the sales organization to grow the protein categories faster than the rest of the industry, provides strategic input into the growth of our Specialty businesses, and incorporates the needs of our Sysco Brand and Sustainability goals into the growth strategy for this business overall.Duties and Responsibilities:Define, lead, and support execution of margin enhancement and strategic growth plans and programs for protein businesses. This leader is responsible for identifying areas of value, owning the process of executing line reviews, pushing the boundaries of ambition in our category strategies, and actively monitoring and resolving issues related to value capture.Deliver results as a world-class buying function, keeping Sysco competitive through careful management of contracts, spot buying, and commodity tracking.Oversee buying and support growth strategies for our Specialty Meat companies, developing relevant assortments and buying approaches to win in the market.Develop training, promotional calendars, and marketing campaigns to drive growth in sales with Sysco’s sales team as well as strategic brokers.Understand how the organization makes money, levers to change trajectory and drive growth, and how to deliver results in a cross-functional manner.Own Sysco’s relationship with key protein suppliers and relevant industry marketing and governing organizations.Collaborate with VP of Merchandising Growth and operations to support the overarching merchandising strategy portfolio and goals. Proactively identify new opportunities and initiatives for business case definition and review.Collaborate with Sales leaders to support execution and gather feedback for various merchandising initiatives.Collaborate with VP Personalization and Ecommerce to support the growth and priorities on Shop, Sysco’s ecommerce platform.Support our product-related Sustainability goals, specifically related to sustainable offerings, animal welfare, supplier diversity, and Scope 3 emissions reduction.Education Required:Bachelor’s DegreeEducation Preferred:MBA PreferredExperience Required:10+ years of progressive experience in Merchandising or Retail Consulting, or senior leadership roles in the meat industry.Experience Preferred:10+ years of progressive experience in Merchandising or Retail Consulting, or senior leadership roles in the meat industry.Technical Skills and Abilities:Strategic thinker with the ability to drive execution against a financial plan.Demonstrated ability to lead organizational and cultural change efforts needed to ensure new, innovative concepts, business practices, and technologies are fully adopted and integrated into the business.Strong interpersonal skills and ability to influence a diverse audience; experience working with external and internal partners to bring ideas and platforms to market.Proven ability to think creatively and disruptively to bring and infuse new ideas to business plans and execution.Experience managing a sizable and complex business including P&L responsibility.
