The City of Seattle is seeking an experienced and motivated
Painter Crew Chief
to join our team. This is a working supervisor position leading a small team that helps maintain City facilities including Seattle City Hall, Police precincts, Fire stations, Fleets Management garages and more.
ABOUT USFinance and Administrative Services (FAS) is often the public's first interaction with the City of Seattle, operating as a customer-focused front door that assists with everything from paying utilities or reporting a pothole to requesting public information or even adopting a new pet.The 450-plus employees of
FAS
span across 10 divisions and work behind-the-scenes providing critical functions, like managing 120 City facilities—including police and fire stations—coordinating logistics and emergency management and making sure minority-owned businesses can equitably compete for City contracts. FAS is a collaborative workplace with collective accountability to promote equity, respect, civility, integrity, inclusiveness, and fairness for all employees.
Report to the Facilities Maintenance Manager and provide customer support, supervision, training, planning, organizing, materials support and assist in scheduling work for the crew.Assist crew in performing full scope of painting duties and conduct field evaluations of work projects to ensure work performed is in code compliance and meets department and customer expectations.Participate in developing/managing performance goals and metrics for the team; conduct annual performance reviews on each of the employees along with periodic feedback sessions; provide positive leadership and team building through clear and positive communication and accountability.Develop, implement and maintain a preventive and predictive maintenance program.Conduct safety meetings, document attendance, discuss safety topics and other related issues.Provide design reviews of projects; inspect requests for work and interpret blueprints to develop needs for materials, equipment, labor and cost estimates; order, pick-up and deliver materials, equipment and supplies to jobsite.Coordinate work as needed between different trades and vendors. Provide training to employees on new techniques, material and equipment; maintain logs for required training; track facilities projects, tasks and documents; enter project data into the system accounting program.Provide support in writing and tracking contracts, request for proposals and purchase orders. Track maintenance/project budgets and send expenditure corrections to accounting.
Minimum Qualifications
: Three years journey-level painter experience and the ability to supervise the work of others.(Or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class.)
License, Certification and Other RequirementsCurrent Washington State driver's licenseNormal color vision is required
The most successful candidates will possess the following:Five or more years of journey-level experience including prepping and painting interior sheet rock and exterior building surfaces.Completion of an accredited painting apprenticeship program.Proficient knowledge in MS Word, Excel and other MS Office applications; excellent written and oral communication skills; organizational and time management skills.Ability to work in an environment with multiple projects and priorities, show initiative and use independent judgment within defined procedures and practices.Strong customer service orientation with both internal and external clients.Supervisory or lead experience; ability to lead by example and foster a positive team work environment.Knowledgeable in the proper use of all tools, equipment, and material.Knowledgeable of safety practices and programs.
Work Environment/Physical DemandsThis position requires full-time onsite work with 4/10 or 9/80 schedule options.Required to stand, walk or bend for extended periods of timeRequired to lift objects weighing more than 50 poundsMay be required to handle or work with toxic/hazardous substances.Required to work outdoors in all types of weatherRequired to work near energized equipmentMay be required to work over water, on ladders, scaffolds or in confined/cramped spaces
This position is classified as a Classified Civil Service, regular, Full-Time. It is Civil Service represented, FLSA non-exempt and is eligible for overtime. The full range for this step-progression position is $48.91 - $52.97 per hour.
